Cristina Gonzalea Alecala who is the CEO and Founder of Mango and the Prickly Cactus, makers of Not Yo' Daddy's Mexican Hot Sauce, spiced things up as our speaker last week. She grew up in Mexico and always enjoyed hot sauce that was a secret family recipe. Once she lived here, she could not find any hot sauce that satisfied her, so was able to get the recipe from her father. He told her not to share it. Well, she has not shared the recipe, but she turned that recipe into a business. She named it Not Yo Daddy's Hot Sauce because it is her daddy's recipe, not yo's! Four years ago she shared her product at an event for small businesses at the Akron Art Museum. She sold more than expected. Ultimately she set up a marketplace at the Northside Market, working in conjunction with Sweet Mary's Bakery. One advantage of that relationship is that there is a central cashier, so that every small business does not have to staff the booths whenever the market is open. Their varieties are Original, Sweet Smoke, Ole Chipotle, Sweet Smoke, Bold Bonnet and Ghost Pepper. Cristina raffled one bottle with Jim Laber as the winner.
