Linda Trevorrow filled in for Brad Jagger as announcer. We pulled two 50/50 cards this week after we lost the stack of cards last week, but the pot continues to grow as the Joker was not pulled either time. Aunt Mary paid a Happy Buck to share that her granddaughter was offered a full ride to Boston University to attend college. Dick Hall then kicked off National Career-Tech Education Month and introduced Mary Jane Stanchina, Executive Director of the Six District Educational Compact (SDEC)shared some updates and information with us. The Six Districts are, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Kent, Stow-Munroe Falls, Tallmadge, and Woodridge. The theme for this year is, "Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow." This year is the 50 year anniversary of the SDEC, which was also the first program of its kind in Ohio when it got its start. When the SDEC was first proposed in 1969, the Ohio Department of Education officials in Columbus called it pure folly. They said it would never work. They said the whole idea that six superintendents and six Boards of Education could agree to pool their resources, yet maintain their individual identities, was absurd. Well, 50 years later, they have certainly proven them wrong. Through the years, the Compact has expanded beyond its original purpose of providing career and technical education. Today, the list of programs and services offered by the Compact includes a wide range of college tech prep initiatives, shared business services including professional development for support staff, special education, summer school, the Summa Compact Partnership, Pathway Project, and a whole host of special events. They are very excited to be introducing two new programs next year in Modern Communications through Media Production and EntrepreNEW Academy and soon to be coming will be Pharmaceutical Tech and Vet Tech programs! Thank you for sharing your passion Mary Jane! |
