Highlights from last week's meeting:

Annette Oborn and Allison Terlacher, an Ambassador for Herren Project introduced Pam Rickard, Director of Active Engagement for the organization.

Herren Project is a national nonprofit organization providing free resources and support for the treatment, recovery and prevention of substance use disorder. Treatment and recovery services include treatment placement assistance, long-term recovery support for individuals and families, online support groups, as well as scholarships for treatment programs, recovery housing and recovery coaching.

Herren Project’s prevention and wellness initiatives provide schools and communities resources to prevent the misuse of drugs and alcohol. Herren Project Clubs and Wellness Week with Herren promote healthy choices, bringing positive awareness to the disease of addiction and empower individuals to cope with life’s challenges substance-free.

Herren Project was founded in 2011 by former professional basketball player, Chris Herren, who has been in long-term recovery since August 1, 2008. As a member of the Herren family of brands, Herren Project represents one step in the journey to recovery.

Pam Rickard shared her own journey of recovery.  In 2008, her journey from addiction to recovery was featured in the book A Race Like No Other. Pam says that without her finding the foundation for her recovery back in April of 2006, none of it would have been possible. “The fact that I can run at all now, let alone do it while building a community and helping others through the work of Herren Project, is a priceless gift. Whether it’s a 3-mile training run, or a major event, my mantra is, ‘I don’t have to run, I get to’.” We thanked Pam for sharing her remarkable story!  For more information, contact pam@herrenproject.org.

Hosts --- Please invite your speakers to learn more about Rotary!  Carrie, thank YOU for keeping everyone 'in the loop'.

JOKE!!

An Irishman, by the name of O'Malley, proposed to his girl on St. Patrick's Day. He gave her a ring with a synthetic diamond. The excited young lass showed it to her father, a jeweler. He took one look at it and saw it wasn't real.

The young lass on learning it wasn't real, returned to her future husband. She protested vehemently about his cheapness.

"It was in honor of St. Patrick's Day," he smiled.

"I gave you a sham rock."
