Eric Weber was our announcer. Eric enjoyed the freedom of having the attention of the entire club and had to be reigned in a few times, but he did a great job! The lawyers table had the winning ticket, but the pot continues to grow as the Joker was not pulled again. We sang Happy Birthday to Eric Weber and Carrie Leising! What a fantastic group of speakers this week!! Dick Hall introduced, Don Titko, Instructor of the Construction Technologies program for the Six District Educational Compact (SDEC) who shared some updates and information with us. The Six Districts are, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Kent, Stow-Munroe Falls, Tallmadge, and Woodridge. The theme for this year is, "Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow. Instead of Mr. Titko standing up and telling all of us what his students do and how they do it, he had most of his students with us at our meeting and they each came up and shared with us what motivated them to get involved in Construction Technology and how it has impacted their lives. One by one they shared what it means to be a part of the program and how it has helped them gain purpose and give them direction. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we were very impressed with these young men! Mr. Titko has the students create a Mission Statement when they come into the program and that Mission Statement is nailed to their construction project all year as a reminder of what they are working towards. They brought those Mission Statements with them to the meeting and we were privileged to get to hear each one. It was inspiring to listen to them and we thank them for sharing something so personal with all of us that were in attendance!! Mr. Titko is doing amazing things with this program and with these students!! I am always the first to say that teachers do not get enough credit for what they do day in, and day out, and Mr. Titko is no exception! His passion for these students and his program is motivating and touching. Thank you to all who came!!! |
