Marty Tass entertained his daughter (from Cuyahoga Falls) in Florida.  He and Deb enjoyed her company!

Tina Gary reminded the group about the definition of insanity --- doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.  She will test the definition soon.  Tina, the Hankie Girl, plans to run a 3.85 mile loop at an old girl scout camp in Richfield over and over again in mid-May for 24 hours!  Let's hope she does not prove the definition to be accurate ...  Stay tuned!

Susan Figler remembered her dad on his 84th birthday.  She and her family miss him.

Linda Trevorrow is enjoying the beautiful daffodils turning their faces to greet the sun each day!  Nature provides wonderful sights and smells!

Apologies to Annette --- She is Nurse Ratched, NOT Nurse Ratchett ... This editor did NOT do her proper research.

Highlights from last week's meeting:

Leslee Salhany, our charming hostess, is thankful she can help homeowners sell their lifetime homes, as well as help them clear their homes of 40-50 years of accumulated 'stuff'.  She was pleased to introduce our speaker, Bill Sepe, a retired engineer from Sherwin Williams and the proud father of two Eagle scouts and a really proud grandfather of an Eagle scout.  Bill, a Stow resident (formerly a Hudsonite) has retired from active volunteering for scouting.

Bill shared slides and the story of TASCforce. "TASC" in the name TASCforce stands for Trail Advocates of Summit County.  The "force" part of the name is a subtle suggestion about the group's determination.  Bill and his like-minded friends formed this non-profit, all volunteer organization committed to promoting trails in Summit County, Ohio.  Bill told us of the Veterans Trail and its background:
  • An abandoned railroad right of way runs through the cities of Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Silver Lake, Stow, and Hudson.

  • Built in 1851, it has not been used since 1996 and will require tremendous investment in order to support rail traffic again.

  • It has long been recognized as an ideal trail opportunity and has been studied for more than 16 years.

  • But now the owner, Metro RTA, has indicated an interest in repurposing the right-of-way to be used for a multipurpose trail - as they did with the Freedom Trail. Stow City Council passed Resolution 2021-38 on March 11, 2021, formally declaring their support of the Veterans Trail.  Collectively, TASCforce and, presumably the Stow City Council members, believe the greater good for the public will be to create a trail, not a rail.

  • For additional information visit tascforce.org.  Bill, thank you for your informative, and enlightening, presentation!

Hosts --- Please invite your speakers to learn more about Rotary!  Carrie, thank YOU for keeping everyone 'in the loop'.
