Happy Bucks!

Annie Hanson Hilaire was happy to introduce her daughter, Lizzy, to Andy Denton, at craft supply store.  The meeting was socially distanced and the adults wore masks.  As for the craft project for Lizzy ... Annie learned that washable paint is truly washable!  Here's to more happy meetings and introductions!

Tina Gary encouraged everyone to view a ZOOM video about a cat's involvement in a Texas 394 Judicial Court session. The video is purrfectly FUNNY!!  Enjoy when you have a couple of moments!

Some members shared Happy Bucks about the Super Bowl outcome; others did not.  Let's not be sore losers, or braggards!  Remember our Four-Way Test!

Highlights from last week's meeting:

Career Tech Month will give us opportunities to learn about a variety of career choices available to young and old, alike.  Dick Hall is the host for all meetings this month!  His Happiness Moment this past week ---- helping a friend move his late wife's furniture from her room at a nursing facility.  Dick --- you have a VERY generous heart!  Thank you for sharing your story with us.

Dick introduced Brad Ely, a teacher from Cuyahoga Falls High School, participating with other teachers in the Six District Compact.  Brad teaches the CISCO IT program and helps his students with education in hardware, software and networking.  A major emphasis in the course is cybersecurity.  The growing field of cybersecurity sparked his interest to re-educate himself about the topic.  $3.86M is the average cost of a breach – ransom, repairs, etc. 3.5 million cybersecurity job openings are expected  by 2021, increasing to 4.5 million in a few years!.   All of the local colleges are reaching out to programs like his for recruits ... needless to say, Brad is always busy convincing students to consider his program!

He commented, "When one commits to being a teacher, one commits to being a learner."  He encourages his students to commit to making themselves better.  2-year degrees with certifications are most needed.  Students are employable upon leaving his program --- they can earn up to 3 certifications.  Tests are available and required.

Students are in his class about 2 hours each day.  He supports academies like his IT academy.  The programs offer a more practical education --- the ‘fluff’ classes are left out.

Sienna Leising is in Brad’s program.  She plans to study cybersecurity!  We thank Carrie for contacting Mr. Ely!!!  Brad, thank you for an informative presentation!

Hosts --- Please invite your speakers to learn more about Rotary!  Carrie, thank YOU for keeping everyone 'in the loop'.
