Happy Bucks!

Brad Ruth announced that he and John Pribonic will discuss their Co-Presidency-Elect ideas with the Board at its November meeting.  THANK YOU!

Mary Dula voted EARLY and appreciated the opportunity to join the long line of other voters.

Tina Gary shared two Happy Bucks.  First, we can shop at smile.amazon.com and our Club's Rotary Foundation [a 501(c)(3) organization] will receive 0.5% of eligible purchases --- no fees, no extra cost!  Let's do it ... ALL amounts count! Look for an e-mail with instructions to join AmazonSmile for this fundraising campaign.

Her second Happy Buck --- she was pleased to tell us of the niece's wedding in Pennsylvania.  Tina's love for her niece was felt by everyone!  Congratulations to the happy couple!

Bob Sweitzer enjoyed his daughter's nuptials on October 10, as did Kelly and Lisa Toppin.  LOVE is strong in October!!

Highlights from last week's program:

Program Host, Ray Evans was delighted to tell us of his "Happiness Moment" --- his in-person visit with his wife after months of being unable to see each other.  Luckily, Ashley, a caring employee at Hudson Grande, helped Jan to FaceTime with Ray during the weeks of lockdown.

Ray introduced Ray Mazur, the President and CEO of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.  We learned of the railroad's history, as well as information about its present day activities.

The railroad, is known as "The Voice in the Valley" because of its unique whistle.  70% of its budget is earned revenue, while 30% comes from contributions.  Every car on the train is at least 70 years old and has a special history.  The locomotives are between 50 and 60 years old. Each engineer, conductor and trainman/woman is a volunteer.  Chances are, riders will only be served by volunteers on the train!

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is a tourist excursion railway and private sector, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization operating in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park located in Northeast, Ohio. CVSR is dedicated and committed to preserving and renovating historic railcars so that they may be enjoyed by future generations. In addition to providing event excursions year-round, the organization offers a membership program.  Additionally, a volunteer base of over 1,000 serves the group.

For more than 100 years, trains have been moving through the scenic wonders of what is now Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  In 1989, a mutually beneficial partnership began for Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and the National Park and it has brought a proud distinction to each.  There is no other national park in the country with a non-profit heritage railroad operating within it and providing educational and entertainment programs to enhance the accessibility of the park for tens of thousands of people each year. Park staff continue to deliver educational programming for riders of all ages and maintain the railroad tracks to ensure safety of all riders.

The Railroad's mission is to provide educational, recreational and heritage railroad experiences and to provide alternative transportation to and within Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Ohio & Erie Canalway.

Ray, we thank you for spending time with us on a VERY BUSY day for your group.  Lucky passengers will soon see you at the North Pole!!!

Hosts --- Please invite your speakers to learn more about Rotary!
