Mary Dula was our Announcer last week and did a great job! She lead us in singing to Annette Oborn for her birthday! Marv Mills was our Host and shared his love of Rotary and how he helped to get the Club started almost 40 years ago. He continues to love coming in the morning and eating breakfast with his friends and being in charge of the Donation Committee and helping local people and non-profits. We welcomed Tim Bailey, ESOL Coordinator of Project Learn of Summit County as our speaker. Tim is a former teacher and is expecting his first child, a girl, with his wife. Project Learn has served the community since 1981. Their mission is to provide literacy and lifelong learning services to help adults achieve their goals as family members, workers, community members, and lifelong learners. Since 1981 they have served 26,315 adults. They have several ways they accomplish this. They have clases for Literacy, GED, ESOL, College and Career Prep. Their students are adults who want to achieve their education goals, weather it be earning high school credential and/or learning English. The goals of the prgram and students is to find or maintain employment, attend college or vocational school, become more self-sufficient or achieve personal goals, like becoming a citizen, visit the doctor or integrate into the community. The students go through registration, testing and then are placed in class. Classes are Monday - Friday, morning, afternoon and evening, 3 hours a day, 2-3 days a week. They have 21 location sites in community centers, churches, schools and more. They have volunteers help with all content areas especially math and as a conversation partner. Thank you Tim for sharing!! |
