Stow Municipal Court
Our speaker last week was, Judge Kim Hoover who has been a municipal judge since 1995.  He serves on many boards and was the leader in the construction of the courthouse in Stow.  He graduated from Woodridge High School, University of Maryland, where he was an Academic All-American and The University of Akron, passing the bar in 1979.

Judge Hoover shared the controversial history of our court.  It serves 16 communities with a total population of about 200,000 and is the seventh largest court in the State of Ohio.  Who knew?! When the Cuyahoga Falls court was not big enough to meet the demands, Judge Hoover proposed that a new court be established in Stow.  With the help of Mayor Karen Fritschel and other Stow leaders and State leaders, the $12 million project was approved. An extra amount was added to the court fees as well as utilizing labor of the people for the penalties of which they commit, so that the taxpayers would not be charged.  At this point the $12million debt has been reduced to $4.7 million.  Community service workers do yard work and maintenance with the courthouse and a garden produces 2000 pounds of organic food for the Foodbank each year.  All of this teaches a work ethic and helps people feel good about themselves.  We have the only court that pays its own way....something of which we can be proud.
