After Co-President Brad Ruth opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Dick Hall, Program Host, led us in an invocation from the Book of Monbeck about gratitude.
CELEBRATIONS:
Birthdays: Annette Oborn will celebrate her birthday on Friday.
Rotary Anniversary: Pat Messmore is observing 19 years as a member of our club this week.
HAPPY BUCK: Dave Renninger said that all of the certificates and pins have arrived and they will be awarded to the recipients when we are back in person.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Four-Way Speech Test. Brad said that the judging for the Four-Way-Speech Contest will be March 9 at 3:00 at the high school. He will be contacting those who said they would judge to confirm that they can be there on that date.
Foodbank: Mary Dula said that due to the weather prediction, the volunteer time and the picture of our club for the award has been cancelled for tonight. Hopefully, we will be able to do it next week. You will be notified as soon as the date is confirmed.
Interact Items. Mary also reminded us to save our plastic lids and pop tabs for the club. Let her know if you need her to pick yours up.
Meeting Location: When our board meets on Friday, February 11, a decision will be made as to resuming in-person meetings and where those will be. Jim Laber has agreed to work with Brad to set up a zoom feature for the meetings if we change back to meeting in person.
Golf Outing: Scott Miller, Golf Outing Chair reported that the prices have gone up significantly, so we need to explore whether we stay at Silver Lake or move to a different location. That will also be discussed at the Board Meeting.
Bulldog Bags: Small bags of Goldfish crackers, microwave pasta cups and cash donations for purchase of shampoo are the items being collected right now. Take your donations to the lobby of City Hall by February 9.
Coffee Collection: Remember that cans of coffee are being collected for The Haven of Rest through the end of this week. The Oborns are the collection point at 381 Silver Valley Blvd. in Munroe Falls. We are very close to beating last year's record of 125 cans.
PROGRAM:
Host, Dick Hall said that he really wasn't effected that much by the pandemic and in fact worked on building a new home during that time.
Dick then introduced Mary Jane Stanchina, Executive Director of the Six District Educational Compact, our tool for Career Tech Education.
She explained that she has been working with schools for 38 years as a teacher, administrator, and student counselor and says that with all her Six District Compact work she has worked with 117 different superintendents. The compact provides Career Tech Education for students at Cuyahoga Falls, Woodridge, Kent, Hudson, Tallmadge.and Stow-Munroe Falls. Students who are juniors and seniors in any of the schools can attend specialized classes at the other schools. The Compact is 58 years old and was the first in Ohio.
She set the stage for the rest of our Career Tech Month Next week we will hear about a new program housed at Stow Munroe Falls High School specializing in Modern Manufacturing. They have a strong partnership with area manufacturers. On February 16 we will hear about Forestry and Landscape Management which is housed in Kent. For the final week we will learn about the EntrepreNEW Academy which is at Woodridge High School.
At Stow High School classes specializing in Polymers, Aeronautics, Program and Software Development and Modern Manufacturing are offered. 200 students from the other five schools come to Stow for their education and about 50 Stow-Munroe Falls students attend elsewhere. There are a total of 28 different programs in the six schools.
There are also new programs in audio and video production. The audio portion of the classes are taught at Cuyahoga Falls and the video portion at Hudson. For further information go to www.sixdistrict.com. There you will find newsletters and more information about all of the programs.
JOKE: Chief Jeff Film was in charge of our joke this morning. He asked Why did the Clydesdale give the pony a glass of water? The answer was that he was a little hoarse. You might want to ask him why the baby strawberry was crying.
