PROGRAM: Cathy Jansen, Regent and Debbie Schinkler of Joshua Stow, DAR presented our program this morning,  Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 and is a non-profit, non-political women's service organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.

They have over 190,000 members in over 3,000 chapters across all 50 states and internationally  Women who are 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution are eligible to become members.  Nationally the members have activities that are historical, educational and patriotic.  They actively support active military personnel and veterans from all of the branches of the service.

A major project of the group is "Wreaths Across America".  The purpose of the mission is to remember fallen heroes, honor those who serve and teach children the value of freedom.  This is done partially through placing wreaths at the graves of veterans.  In 2007 the Wreath Across America effort was officially formed.  By 2014 they were able to cover all of the graves at Arlington National Cemetery.  Then, in 2020, in spite of the pandemic, 1.7 million graves were wreathed with wreaths created in certain ways with specific symbolism that describes the meaning of being a veteran.

On December 18 of this year at noon, Joshua Stow NSDAR will host a Wreaths Across America ceremony at Stow Cemetery to honor the fallen veterans.  After the ceremony, wreaths will be placed at the local Stow Cemeteries where local veterans are laid to rest...over 800 graves.  The ceremony is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

To find out more about the local DAR chapter go to JoshuaStowDAR@gmail.com.  To learn more about Wreaths Across American visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/Oh0247P.

By the way, they are looking for bagpipers for the ceremony.  If you know of someone who plays, please contact  the local chapter.
