President, Annie Hanson opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Brad Jagger then had us recite the "Four Way Test" for our invocation.  Annie then welcomed Christina Gary as our announcer.

Christina thanked Steve Dunton and Dave Renninger for checking us in.  Mary Dula, and Emmet and Ginger Bakos were welcomed as visitors.  Mike Sekulich was back with us after a long absence due to some health issues.

CELEBRATIONS:
Rotary Club Anniversary  Heather Ciranna is observing three years as a Rotarian.

Wedding Anniversary:  Mark and Connie Ferguson are celebrating their 36th anniversary.

Drawing:  Ray Evans' table had the winning ticket but drew the 10 of clubs.

Christina gave us some Cleveland Trivia today.  Do you know what questions she asked to get the following answers: Superman, Elliot Ness, Chef Boyardee and the Cleveland Spiders?  And her joke was priceless.  She will be glad to tell you why the fungus downsized.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Shoeboxes:  Annette explained that we were given a list of people to buy for who don't match our boxes.  So, next week a new list will be circulated.  If you have already shopped, don't worry.  We will make it work.  If you are writing a check for the Shoeboxes, make sure it is made out to the Stow-Munroe Falls Club Rotary Foundation if you want a tax deduction.

Dues are due now.  Give your check to Annette for $160 for the whole year or $80 for half of the year.

ShelterBox  Originally our cluster agreed that each club would pass the hat with the hope of raising $200 for ShelterBox so that together the 5 clubs would purchase a box.  However, our club has now raised $1000 so that we will contribute our own box.  This will entitle us to have a tracking number to follow our box.  Thanks Stow-Munroe Falls Rotary for your generosity.

Rubber Ducks Game  Jeff Film reminded us that our Rubber Ducks game is this Saturday.  The park opens at 6:05 and the game begins at 7:05.  Be sure to bring both tickets with you because one is for food and one is for the game.  If you cannot attend, please let Jeff know.  Also, the first 1000 people will receive Mark Price bobbleheads at this game.  Fireworks will follow.

Thank you  Annie read a thank you note from scholarship winner, Maria Petrecca.

Golf Outing  Ray Evans reported that this year's Golf Outing raised $14,700.  $5000 will go to scholarships at the high school, $3000 to the NOPE Program and $3000 to HOPE.  Note that the board meeting minutes give a different income figure, but more money came in after the board meeting.  Thanks to the committee and the volunteers for all of their hard work.  The 2019 Golf Outing will be on Monday, June 3 at Silver Lake, so save the date and start planning now!

Board Minutes  The July meeting minutes are attached to this newsletter.

PROGRAM: As Annie called Brad to the program to introduce our speaker, she played his walk-up-song, "Move Like Jagger".  In his Member Moment, Brad told us that he is the pastor of Church in Silver Lake and is also an adjunct professor at Kent State University.  He and his wife, Kirsten have 2 daughters and one bonus daughter who will all be moving out within a month.

Brad then introduced Emmett Bakos who will be an eight grader at NEO Med's Biomedical Engineering Program.  He became concerned about the problem of available clean water and created an invention to solve the problem.  The design of his robot keeps women from having to walk 3-10 miles a day to get water for their families.  Each robot, containing 4 tanks of water can support 25 people per tank.  Since one and a half million children die each year of water-related diseases, Emmett's invention could literally be a life saver.  The robot, made out of aluminium is about the size of a dining room table.  Each of the four tanks is connected to a telescoping mechanism which boils and filters the water.  It is solar powered and knows what to do because of apps that work through cell towers.  The robot moves on treads at about 10 miles per hour.

On July 29, Emmett will be competing in the state Invention Convention with the hope that he can go to the national Invention Convention.  The ultimate hope is that he will receive funding for his project which Emmett makes clear will be a humanitarian invention and that he is not looking for personal profits.  His target market is Western Kenya where the villages would own the robots.   His work is of special interest to Rotarians because of clean water being one of the major emphases of Rotary International.  We were proud to meet Emmett and his Mom, Ginger today.
