After an excellent dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and dessert, Dan McClelland called the meeting to order.  In the absence of Dick Hills, Al Skinner read a joke.  John Hurd followed Al with a joke about Moses and his sense of direction.

Jack McCartney won the coin toss for the bottle of cabernet sauvignon: vintage 1999.  Three guests were introduced:  Chris (Ralph Hurd’s grandson) and husband and wife Joan Gambrill and John Collura, who were attending based on their interest in our program.  Through St. Anselm Church in Chesterland they are involved with an education outreach in Uganda.

We received a letter from Geauga County Job & Family Services requesting volunteers for their tutoring program at Jordak Elementary School (K-3rd) and Cardinal Intermediate School (4th-5th), both in Middlefield.  Last year’s program was very successful.  Next year they want to expand this program into Burton Elementary School (K-6th grade) in Burton.  Anyone interested in being a volunteer tutor in math or reading should call Sara Shininger at 440-285-9141.

We also received thank you notes from Pat Happ on behalf of Heather Behr and her children for our contribution to their family after they suffered a catastrophic fire.  Elise wrote to thank us for welcoming her and her presentation at our Rotary meeting as well as our financial support of her “Six Days in D.C.” trip.  We also received a thank you note from Allison Klein, one of this year’s scholarship winners, and an update on her progress from Kelly Yoder who won one of our scholarships last year.

Dan said that on the 26th we all need to be at the Harrington Mall in Middlefield Village at 7:30 a.m. to set up for the Motorcycle Run.

Chuck White said that for next week’s dinner, if you don’t want steak, please let him know.  Salmon is the alternative. He also said that the Newbury Industrial Park, where we are meeting next Wednesday, is set for all weather.  Program will be DVD’s of Rotary memories.  Cost of the meal is $15. The office complex is located on the southwest corner of S.R. 44 and S.R. 87.  The office with the copper roof.

Jodie reminded everyone to respond to the Changeover Banquet invitation ASAP.  She needs to tell the caterers how many are coming.

Brian Brockway reminded everyone to let him know if they plan to attend the Captains’ baseball game on July 27th.  Call or e-mail Brian for tickets, which are $7. An all-you-can-eat ticket is a bit more.

Program:  Patagonia Four and a Half Years Later--- This was our program for the evening.  Because of unexpected out-of-town company and in the interest of this week’s Beamer getting out in a timely fashion, this reporter will summarize that program in next week’s Beamer.

New Member Proposals:  Former Rotary District 6630 Governor Fran Bayless and her husband Tom Bayless have moved to South Russell Village.  They would like to transfer their Rotary Club membership to Burton-Middlefield Club from the Rotary Club of Cleveland. There membership has been proposed to and approved by the board of Directors.

John Hurd’s son in law Chris Zaumeyer was also proposed to and approved by the board of Directors for membership to the club. (sponsor Ralph Hurd)

Any objections/inquiries please notify Chris Livers as soon as possible.
