This week's meeting is at Welshfield.

Thank-you's were received from Amy Lasco (RYLA attendee), Geauga County Animal Shelter, from the winner of the Rotary Scholarship from Cardinal High School, and from the Berkshire High School Interact Club.

Guests:  Jim Pascoe, Lloyd and Joan Schill.

Heads & Tails Winner:  Jim Eldridge.

President Bob Varga's interview with Jack McCartney:  Jack has been a member of BMR since 1973 and was proposed for membership by Lloyd Schill and John McNaughton.  He was club president for the 1979-1980 Rotary year and has held just about every office in the club.  The project he remembers most is the covered bridge project at the Rookery, which is part of the Geauga Park District.  Jack worked at Republic Steel in purchasing for 29 years before retiring.  What he likes best about Rotary is the loyalty of all of BMR's members to the club and each other.

PROGRAM:  Tiffany Buda.  Cleveland Clinic Center for Heart Failure.

Tiffany explained how the organ transplant process works at Cleveland Clinic.  All transplants candidates who are approved by the clinic are given a rating based on how critical it is that they receive a transplant.  This rating is based on a number of different factors.  When an organ is offered to the Clinic, they evaluate the organ and look at their list of potential recepients for it to see if they have a match.  If the have a match, time is of the essence because they only have 4 hours to get the organ from the donor to the recepient.  Nationally, about 114,000 people are awaiting organ transplants and about 7,000 die annually waiting.
