Play was the topic of todays club meeting.

Play was the topic of the February 13th Barberton Rotary Club meeting. Club member and Barberton East Elementary School Principal, Kim Buehler was speaker at the meeting. Ms. Buehler had made a presentation at the February Rotary Club board meeting sharing news of a program in use at her school called Play Attention. This program has been proven to be effective in improving the lives of children with attention problems.
Kim explained when you are engaged or paying attention your brain emits a signal-an attention signature. The Play Attention program uses a special armband that monitors this signal through the body and transmits it wireless to the computer. This allows the user to control the computer exercises by mind alone. Play attention is brain or cognitive exercise.

There are 3 computers presently in place at her school, Barberton Elementary East utilizing this program. Each child's session is tallied with a score sheet that notes things like the amount of distractions during the session, and the child's behavior. The child's progress is tracked with each session. Kim shared that the research on this program has documented that 30 hours of program use has resulted in life long improvement for a child. The board has recommended our Rotary Club foundation consider the purchase of several units: the program and wristbands. The cost of each is $1000.

In other club news, tickets are still available for the Family Fun Night to be held at the Fast Lane next Saturday, February 22. Tickets are $10 a person and include bowling, games and food.
