Lewisburger

Lewisburger a hit with fairgoers

It was long lines and happy customers at the Lewisburger booth during the Santa Cruz County Fair. Watsonville Rotarians did it again — serving up the best burgers in the county and raising money for nonprofit organizations. Kudos to all who volunteered their time to make this fundraiser a succe

Lewisburger a Success!
While there was a lot of fun happening at this year's Lewisburger Booth, there was also a lot of burger flipping! The latest update was that we are up 8.3% over last years sales and at one point they even had to send a friend over to Costco to purchase more supplies!

2014 International Night a Success
Thank you to all the Rotarians and friends of Rotarians who attended the first International Service Night on May 14th at Portuguese Hall.
Approximately 230 guests enjoyed appetizers from around the world, a great Tri-tip dinner and the opportunity to purchase items from many countries, all while raising funds for health and education projects in developing countries. Hope to see everyone there next year!

A Thank You from CASA to Rotary
Thanks again Sharon (Jurach) – I really do love coming to Rotary. You are always so generous in praising the nonprofits for the work we do, but you must know that we all are very inspired by you guys for giving back so much to your community in so many ways. Today, the number of people who indicated they have served on boards or been trustees or helped on advisory committees for local organizations was staggering. And this is in addition to the financial impact you all have, and the ripple effect from that. So – we have a lot of gratitude for Watsonville Rotary.

CLUB FOCUS ON YOUTH AND EDUCATION
Club focus on Youth and Education; and Adoption  of E A Hall Middle School and Renaissance High School

Our Rotary Club’s Community Needs funds are raised by the Detective “fining” different Rotarians at meetings for real or imaginary events in their lives.  It is all done in good fun, and  the Fines collected are one source of funds used to support our club’s  charitable donations.

Our annual proceeds from Fines are currently about $7,500.  The Community Needs Committee of our Rotary Club used to consider all donation requests from any and all individuals and organizations.  There seemed to be no  planning, budgeting or forethought about what types or amounts of donations we  would give.  The committee brought all  requests to the board, and most requests were approved, unless the board felt it was not worthy enough or the request was for an amount larger than we  thought we could afford.  Most requests  were approved for $50 to $150, with a few being for as much as $250.
