Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 6:00 to 9:15 pm at Lucien's Distinguished Catering,  81 W White Horse Pike, Berlin, New Jersey. The cost to attend the event is $95 per person or $735 for a table of eight. The awards ceremony will follow a sumptuous celebration which will include hors d’oeuvres, a served, sit-down dinner and dessert, with wine and beer available all evening.  Complimentary wine and beer will be available during the cocktail hour. .
Our Annual Community Service Awards Dinner is our flagship fundraiser, and an opportunity for all of us to come together and celebrate those deserving people who live in or serve the Voorhees community and whose actions have shown that they live by the Rotary motto “Service Above Self," in  three categories. Our Club’s Community Service Awards dinner is one of the highlights of the year.  In past years, it has been a fun and welcoming gathering for the community, for Rotarians, and for friends and supporters of the awardees, with over 100 attendees at a premier location.

Luigi Epifanio - 2023  Voorhees Business Person of the Year
Luigi is a dedicated community member with a passion for service and involvement in Voorhees through his business San Remo Pizzeria. Known for his unwavering support for local institutions, Luigi has been an integral part of the Voorhees Police Department and Fire Department initiatives.
Luigi’s commitment extends beyond public safety, as he has played a key role in enhancing community bonds through Eastern High School pizza fundraisers, supplying the pizzas for the students. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, he supplies pizzas for the school lunches.
Luigi is not only a business owner but a community advocate. He generously sponsors sporting events and community events, recognizing the importance of fostering teamwork and healthy competition among Voorhees residents. His contributions include supplying the food along with the commercial cooking equipment for the St. Andrew’s Church Fair.
Furthermore, Luigi strongly supports animal welfare, actively participating in the Voorhees Animal Orphanage’s Woofstock event. His love for animals is reflected in his commitment to creating a better environment for the animals.
In addition to his involvement in public safety and community events, Luigi has been a driving force behind supporting the retirement luncheon for the Voorhees Township Firemen.

Aqil Khan - 2023 Voorhees Citizen of the Year
Aqil Khan has been a resident of Voorhees for 23 years and has been working tirelessly for over 3 decades to promote diversity and bring communities together regardless of race, religion, sex, creed, and nationality. He has worked as a liaison to organize social, cultural, educational, and development programs in coordination with local and state government.  This  has not  benefited not only Voorhees residents but the entire South Jersey population.
Since 2006, Mr. Khan has been a regular member of Camden County Human Relations Commission, currently known as the Camden County Cultural Awareness Commission.
He serves on the board of the Muslim American Community Association and is Principal of the Weekend School at the Voorhees Mosque.
Mr. Khan also was instrumental in establishing the very first International Day in Voorhees.
Mr. Khan is the Founding President of Pakistan-American Society of South Jersey (PASSJ) established in 2001 and is now serving as PASSJ Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also serves as Elected Secretary General of Pakistani American Congress, based in Washington DC, the umbrella organization supporting the interests of Pakistanis.
 
Mr. Khan has received multiple awards and recognition for his service. In 2001, Mr. Khan became the first Pakistani Voorhees resident to be  honored by being awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Medal, by then-Governor Jim McGreevey, for his meritorious community service. In recognition of Mr. Khan’s community work, he was honored in 2014 in Trenton by New Jersey State Senate President Stephen Sweeney.  That same year, he was honored and commended for his services by the New Jersey Board of Freeholders and members of the NJ General Legislative Assembly. On November 16, 2015, Mr. Khan became the only Pakistani American citizen from Voorhees honored by Congress and by NJ Congressman Donald Norcross.  His name was placed into the Congressional Record during the First Session of the Proceeding and Debates of the 114th Congress.
 
 Mr. Khan’s involvement is not only limited to the New Jersey borders. He has helped victims who suffered in devastating hurricane Sandy and stepped forward to raise funds to help the victims of natural disasters such as tsunami and cyclones in Bangladesh, and earthquakes in Haiti, Turkey, Pakistan and other countries.
 Mr. Khan holds a master’s degree in business administration.
 
Kaylyn Joesten - 2023 Voorhees Selfless Student of the Year
          Kaylyn JoKaylen Joestenesten is a Senior at Eastern Regional High School.  She is wholeheartedly engaged in the community both inside and outside of school.  She is Interact Club President, French Honor Society President, and plays soccer, lacrosse, and the clarinet in her school’s Wind Ensemble.
          Kaylyn enjoys giving back to her local community.  She volunteers at Voorhees Middle School band rehearsals, and plays piano for patients in a long-term care and rehabilitation facility.  Through St. Andrew’s LIFE Youth Group, she makes sandwiches and toiletry kits for the homeless.  In addition, Kaylyn is a Team Leader of Student Alliance at Eastern, where she serves as a mentor during freshmen and new student orientation, and leads monthly presentations in freshmen study halls to further ease their transition into high school.  She values the opportunity to help younger students navigate through high school.
         Kaylyn has been involved in multiple mission trips to Give Kids the World Village in Florida, an organization that partners with Make-A-Wish to provide cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families.  On these mission trips, she assists with craft projects, operating attractions, and serving food.  Her enthusiasm in interacting with the children and their families helps to create lifelong memories for them during their wish vacation.
        As President of her school's Rotary Interact Club, she encourages volunteerism among the students at her school, and coordinates service opportunities and events to support Cathedral Kitchen and Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation.  Kaylyn plans to continue to pursue her passion for community service in college and beyond.
