Warmer temperatures also means more children will be having fun in and around swimming pools, which can be a dangerous place, without the proper instruction. The Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club continues its support of a program that looks to reduce accidental drownings by teaching children about water safety. Everyone's favorite Rotarian, Alan Stein, provides us with a Josh the Otter Update, below.

For the fourth year in a row, our club is hosting a fresh fruit fundraising program to support the Voorhees Animal Orphanage (VAO).
This fundraising program is a win/win for everyone involved. You, the supporter, will get delicious and healthy NJ blueberries grown by family farms and the Voorhees Animal Orphanage receives all the profits to help them save the lives of our four-legged furry friends.
The VAO is an open-intake, municipal animal shelter serving 28 towns in southern New Jersey. VAO saved the lives of over 2,000 homeless cats & dogs in 2022, and over 38,000 lives since their inception in 1988!

Wow! It has been 13 years since Josh the Otter, Children’s Water Safety and Literacy programs have been a major project with the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary Club. We have distributed over 5,000 Josh the Baby Otter Books to the Kindergarten Children of Voorhees.

Accidental Drowning is still the number one cause of accidental death in the nation and the world. What is interesting about the statistics, is that for every one child that drowns, 8, that is EIGHT, suffer a NON-FATAL DROWNING.
The Michael Phelps Foundation became a partner with the JCMF (Joshua Collingsworth Children’s Foundation) a few years ago. The Josh the Otter and Float4Life programs are in all 50 states and in many countries around the world. We are determined to prevent these tragic deaths and drowning events.
