Sheriff Mark Overman

Our Thanks to past president Todd Holcomb for leading the meeting while President Dawne was away. Our student guests were Jason Dahl form Gering High and Kaitlyn Lambert from Scottsbluff. Mr. Dahl has been accepted to U.N.L. and is undecided in his major. Ms. Lambert plans on attending Chadron State College and majoring in elementary education with the goal to return to the area to teach.  Two club related announcements were; Gary Shoemaker asking for volunteers for this year’s third grade dictionary distribution and congratulations to Rwanda Pierce for heading the first week of R.Y.L.A. next year. We welcome back Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman who ran short of time at his September program and was invited to continue at today’s meeting. Continuing with his theme of topics he is keeping up on which the general population might not be tuned into, he spoke of three additional topics. The first is scams. Mr. Overman brought to the club’s attention the numerous scams which are being perpetrated every day: Grandchildren in trouble, winning the sweepstakes, missing jury duty, the failure to pay utilities, and the owing the I.R.S. He warned members that anytime they ask for personal information or ask you to wire money or to pay with a money card, call the authorities. He spoke of terrorist groups which have members in the United States. The government does a good job of checking on those who want to become citizens but are not able to protect against the next generation. Mr. Overman answered questions with the last few minutes of his time.
