KNEB's Kevin Mooney reflects on his Broadcasting Career

For our last meeting in November, we again welcome two student guests. From S.H.S. we have Alex Stanbaugh. He is planning on studying theology and becoming a minister. From G.H.S. we heard from Lexi Talmon who is planning on getting her general Studies classes at W.N.C.C. Announcements included sign up for the Christmas Party at the Gering Civic Center on December 11th. A Cookie decorating station and entertainment is in the works as well as a visit from the big man in the sleigh. There is also a sign-up sheet for volunteers for the dictionary project- delivering dictionaries to third graders. Our program today is recently retired News director for KNEB radio, Kevin Mooney. Mr. Mooney worked in broadcasting for over forty years, thirty four at KNEB. He enthralled us all with his story. A Bolder Colorado native, he graduated from Elkins Broadcasting School in Denver. Beginning his career in Gillette Wyoming. Moving to Torrington Wyoming where he met his wife and began his family. Opportunity came in the form of KNEB in Scottsbluff. He listed some of the highlights of his career as news broadcaster: the explosion of the silos at the sugar factory, and the three criminal trials he covered; Bopree, Mada, and Hessler.  When asked what advice he would give someone beginning their career in broadcasting he replied the need to accommodate new technology and be open to constant change.
