Capstone Center

First, I want to wish all club members a Happy Thanksgiving!! We welcomed our student guest from Gering High, John Hastings a senior who wants to either Grace Bible School or Moody Bible School. They are asking all club members to bring cookies for the Jingle Jog next week so we can hand them out to the participants. The program today was Holly Brandt with information on the Capstone Center. She began the program by having Lexi Sueda speak. Lexi is a survivor of child sexual abuse and spoke on her experience. When she was 12, she had to report her grandfather for abusing her, a difficult decision as her grandfather was her confidant and best friend.  She related her experience to let others know that Capstone is a safe place and helped her overcome all the aftermath of being an abuse victim. After her moving story, MS. Brandt gave us statistics on child abuse in our area. She also explained what Capstone does to help vicums and the non-abusive parents to survive. Capstone covers the entire Nebraska Panhandle, which includes eleven counties. The organization is outgrowing its facilities and needs more staff. She asked Rotary to keep them in mind when handing out grants and perhaps considering them as a beneficiary of the Rotary Gold Fund Raiser.
