United Way Update

President Dawne pointed out that the weather is beginning to change. We welcomed our student guests; fro Gering Mitchell Martin who hopes to attend Nebraska Wesleyan n Lincoln and major in performance with his trumpet and minor in history, and Natalie Seims who plans on continuing her education at WNCC and then attending UNK to major in broadcasting and communications. Don’t forget to attend the Christmas Party on December 8th, signup sheets were at each table. The program today was club member Steph Black, the executive director of the United Way of Western Nebraska. She brought her co-chairs for this year’s campaign, Monica Bartling and Doug Mader.  This year the United Way has been successful with their; “Stuff the Bus” drive for school supplies for needy children, their “ Day of Caring” where over 8500 packaged meals were assembled in two hours and distributed to eight local programs, and distribution of their prescription discount card program, and their grocery shopping spree at CO-OP’s Market Fresh store. She turned the program over to Monica and Doug who explained that this year’s goal for the united way drive was $374,000.00. The theme is “Be a lifesaver- give to United Way” and they showed a video they made explaining the organizations which profit for United Way and what you can do to contribute. Monica was entertaining as Gilligan and Doug as the Skipper—a take of the old Gilligan’s Island T.V. show. They asked those in attendance to give monetarily, to Advocate and/or Volunteer.
