Opportunities to aid Nepal

On this warm March afternoon, we had a great speaker lined up. Jim Trumbull introduced gave an informative introduction. David Boon is from Fort Collins Colorado and his claim to fame is that he and his family survived an avalanche which rolled the car they were in over 300 feet. Everyone survived. Mr. Boon went on to become a motivational speaker and is here today, at the request of the R.Y.L.A. students who have heard him speak, to speak to the Scottsbluff Middle School. Students of the school are forming an INERACT club. After Mr. Boon accepted, plans grew until he was asked to speak to the entire school in an assembly, on behalf of the club. For our program, however, he is not speaking of his experience with the avalanche, but on what his Rotary club in Fort Collins is doing to help the country of Nepal.  It began with a plea from a nursing student who was asking for money to travel to Nepal to provide help, and has ended up as numerous projects. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world.  And has one of the largest sex trafficking problems. Mr. Boon had a power point presentation to help explain the ongoing projects. The Women Empowerment Centers are allowing women to overcome the barriers to education by providing hygiene products. The Deaf Sewing Center allows deaf people to learn sign language and to learn to sew. The club has refurbished schools destroyed in the earthquake which devastated the country. And finally he spoke of the support of orphanages which take students abandoned by parents which cannot provide for them any longer.  All those who want to learn more or contribute can visit his web site www.empoweringopportunities.org..
