Tri-City Active Living Advisory Committee

The meeting began with several announcements. Brenda Darnell let the club membership know that an e-mail was being sent to those who will be greeters and program chairs for the upcoming year. It will ask for the most convenient times to assign months.  The June 25th meeting will be held at the Pioneer’s baseball game, on the party deck. No noon meeting that day. August 15th we will host the Tri-Club picnic. This year a golf outing will precede the barbeque. Finally, the new slate of officers for the upcoming term was read for the first time.  The program today was Janelle Visser, who works for the Panhandle Public Health District. She is involved with the Tri-City Active Living Advisory committee (ALAC).The group was formed by a resolution passed by the cities of Scottsbluff, Gering, and Terrytown, and is made up of citizens to promote active living. The goal is to work with communities to make them walkable bikable communities. Some projects have included a walking safe routes to schools and making sure that the routes are safe from obstacles and hazards, audible cross walk signals for the visual impaired, bike route map, and other events. They are always interested in increasing their numbers.
