Oh! Pioneers!!

Today we welcome Chuck and Mayra Heeman, co-owners of the Western Nebraska Pioneers Baseball team. The Heemans have lived in the area for a little over a year and are excited about the inaugural season of the team. There is a little over four weeks left of the season and the Pioneers are leading the league, tying with a team from Minot North Dakota. The Heeman’s own three teams in the league, the other two are located in Casper Wyoming and Aberdeen South Dakota.  Chuck has been active in some form of baseball organization for over 20 years. Once the team has been assigned, the new owners are pretty much given free reign on how they make it succeed. The Heemans have spent their time making sure the fans have a memorable experience. They leave the team management to the coach. They must be doing alright, as attendance is up and continues. In fact, 47 Rotarians and their families have signed up for tonight’s game. Some interesting facts brought up at Q & A were 28% of the league players go on to play some form of professional baseball. There are over 500 collegiate level summer ball teams. And the Pioneers dress 34 players per game.
