American Doorstop Project

We had a full house for today’s program. Student guests were Brent Barge from Gering High and Aubrey Straub from Scottsbluff. Both plan to attend college, Miss Straub has applied to UNL, and both are undecided in their majors. President Wolfe announced this year’s Rotary Gold Event will be held at the Gering Civic Center on April 2 and the recipients are the Scottsbluff and Gering Main Street Redevelopment projects. Tickets will remain $65.00 each and each member will be accessed two tickets and given two to sell.  Our program today was Jody Lamp, a co-coordinator with Melody Dobson on the Great American Doorstop Project. Mrs. Lamp met Mrs. Dobson when they worked together, traveling across the country to get funding and promote the Emmy award winning documentary “The Great American Wheat Harvest”. During their three years working on the project, they met many people with agriculture related stories and once the project ended, they decided to take these stories and publish them, as many were not well known. Talking up the project led to a meeting with the Arcadia Press which suggested they write a proposal to write a series of books, each showcasing the stories which shaped American Agriculture on a per state basis. They decided to start with Nebraska and to have 150 stories, corresponding to the state’s 150th year as a state. The project is named The American Doorstop Project and is in its infancy. Mrs. Lamp is asking for story ideas. Anyone who wishes to contribute can contact her through the projects web page: www.Americandoorstopproject com.
