Jason Cawiezel, Superintendent of Scottsbluff National Monument.

The meeting today was run by John Massey, who volunteered to preside while President Karphf was away. Next week is the annual Christmas Party at the Gering civic Center. A noon Fireside Chat, which orientates new members, will be held at the Gering Civic Center on the same day. We were privileged to have two student guests, Brady Sindt from S.H.S. who hopes to study Biology at Concordia College, which he has signed on to play baseball, and Brittney Adamson from G.H.S. who plans an attending W.N.C.C. and study accounting. Our Program today was Justin Cawiezel, Chief Ranger at the Scottsbluff National Monument. Mr. Cawiezel is new to the Monument but not to the area, he grew up outside of Morrill. He began his presentation by awarding our own Doug Kent with a citation signed by the director of the National Parks Service for putting in over 200 volunteer hours in the year 2016. This year also happens to be the 100th year of the formation of the parks service. In 1919, the Citizens of Scottsbluff petitioned the parks service to become one of its monuments and was awarded the honor on December 9th. Mr. Cawiezel spent time talking about his tenure and the different parks he has worked at. He has two young daughters and decided Scottsbluff was the place to raise a family, so we welcome him home and look forward to his contributions not only to our National Monument but also to our community.
