Wellness Health Fairs

President Karpf began the meeting with announcements. There is no meeting next week as the Country Club is closed for upkeep. The following meeting will be at the Legacy of the Plains Museum. We will be touring the new exhibits at the museum and the club is covering admission. President Karpf announced, with some disappointment in his voice, that this meeting marks the half way point of his tenure.  Our program today was Vicky Garcia. She is the local manager of the Wellness Health Fairs which recently opened a n office in Scottsbluff. The program began as an idea of Wyoming Senator Brasso as a way to make health care affordable. The idea is that the Wellness health Fair will draw blood and run a series of tests to promote wellness. Ms. Garcia emphasized that they are not competing with the hospital but hoping that the results will encourage participants to consult with their doctors. Once the blood is drawn, results are returned to the participant within 7-10 days, sooner if they have them send via e-mail. The result sheet includes previous tests so you have an idea what is improving and what is not. They are encouraging businesses with wellness programs to have their employees tested to take advantage of the lower rates and decrease the price of their companies’ insurance policies. The Scottsbluff office is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 to 10:00. They recommend 12 hours fasting prior to the draw. They are located at 3321 Ave. I Suite D.
