Update for the New Economic Developer for the City of Scottsbluff
The meeting began with an announcement from President Shelley of a meeting for all program chairs on August 15th at 5:00 at the Country Club. Survey results from last year show that membership is concerned about the quality of programs. The meeting is to coordinate all program chairs to provide timely programs. Jill Wineman introduced our program; Starr Lehl, the new economic director with the city of Scottsbluff. This is her second day on the job, and she is excited. The concept that appeals to her is that the city wants to have a regional economic development plan. With her prior work at the state level, she knows that every area is affected by the other. She gave us an insight to the projects she has helped with. She was instrumental in bring the filming of the series by the Coen Brothers to the area. They will be filming for about three weeks and are using as many local amenities as can be provided. She is also in contact with Crowl Redimix which hopes to bring a ready mix plant to the area, providing fifteen jobs. She is also working on two events; a regional event for Nebraska Diplomats and a Manufactures Day to educate the public on what is produced here.
