The Rotary Club of Scottsbluff-Gering, Nebraska donated $1400 to the Roosevelt Elementary School Library in Scottsbluff, to help fund their Accelerated Reader Program.

Pictured (L-R), presenting the check are: Joe Schon – Chairman of Special Projects and Grants Committee of Rotary Club, Teresa Walker-Weinberg – Librarian at Roosevelt Elementary, and Rwanda Pierce – Rotary Club Board Representative.

Teresa made her request to the Rotary Club, stating, “Roosevelt Elementary has a large poverty student population who need our best efforts at reading instruction.”  She said that the Accelerated Readers had been purchased with a generous gift from an inheritance fund, but they did not have funds for the required comprehension quizzes.  Teresa said, “This Rotary grant will help K-5 grade students improve their reading skills and earn awards in which to be proud.”

Community Projects and Education are two of the major areas of focus of Rotary Clubs and Rotary International.
