Steve Wade introduced our speaker Mr. Mike Hill, the superintendent at TBAISD.  Mike has served as superintendent for the past 10 years and focused on creating “the best educational system in the world”. TBAISD serves 5 counties, 16 school districts and 23,000 students and provides an array of services ranging from early childhood development, special education and career and technology training. The success of TBAISD is based on the consistency of improving teacher’s skills, monitoring results and improving student achievements.

The Career Tech Center is a shining light of TBAISD and has been recognized with several state awards and the highly coveted national STEM award (science, technology, engineering and math).

The Special Education program is the largest division of TBAISD. The program’s youngest participants are preschool-aged children with developmental delays.  Services are available for those who require special education up to the age of 26.  One heartwarming story featured Alex with special needs who with the use of TRAM equipment funded by TBAISD was able to stand and walk with assistance for the first time last year.

TBAISD also provides business support for area school districts.  This can include payroll and budgeting services, pupil accounting and grant management.

While Mike was very generous with answering questions, he was most excited to head over to the Valentine’s Day Dance that his some of his students with special needs were having today. That sounds like a great way to spend a Valentine’s Day afternoon!
