Wednesday, November 11th..our best Rotary meeting ever.   Because of the holiday we did not meet.  Club members were high in their praise of President MacKenzie, saying he had never been so on-target as our leader.  Everyone can't wait until the next meeting is cancelled.

Mike Balsamo reported the presence at the Veteran's Day parade helped raise awareness of the Citrus Campaign.  People along the route seemed to be informed about the drive.   We will also be sending out some 2,500 specially designed post cards to boost sales.  The post card effort was arranged by a member of the club with excellent contacts.

Notes from the Board meeting, a gathering of the wisest people in the club (until the next election).

Chuck Sauer, who heads REAP (Rotary Emergency Action Program), followed up on the reported relayed to us on a local family.  They are struggling after a car accident which temporarily disabled the father.  With REAP funds we bought the family some needed items.   Chuck received approval to use the November and December Happy Bucks to further aid the family.   He also reported on providing food for several people through SERVE.

With the need growing, the board approved increasing the REAP budget from $1,500 to $3,000.  Three thousand dollars was the allocation in previous years, but it had been reduced when requests diminished.  Now, things are going the other way.

Chuck also presented the following grant requests, which the board approved.

$500 - St. Mary's Home for children

Judy Pratt reports the next ALS meeting is this coming Thursday.  2010 will mark the 10th Anniversary of the Scott Carlson Memorial Road Race.  Judy and committee are working on a goal of $50,000 and have many exciting plans.   They hope for a field of 10,000 runners, each paying an extra $10 on their entry fee.  To get the extra runners they are asking all previous runners to bring 10 friends with them.  As an extra incentive there will be special prizes for any runner who goes around the course ten times...there will be a ten legged sack race....people who run lashed together in groups of 10 will be eligible for a special prize as will anyone who finishes the race in 10 minutes. Look for many more exciting innovations.well.at least 10.   In one major development our race will be part of one of a series of four (not 10).  Participating runners will receive one piece of a medal at each race.  The pieces (if you know the 10 secret words) will fit together as a unique piece of race memorabilia (worth at least $10.00).

Following the meeting on Wednesday Jane Boynton is taking her committee to Crestar Mfg. / the Frame Factory to see the site selected for the May 20th wine tasting event.  Jane says this is a great site and she is planning an event that will raise a lot of money.

Just so you know.  Your club dues are $200 a year. Our club runs on dues.  All the money we raise is given away.  Of our $200 per member $37.00 is used for District Dues, $49 for Rotary International Dues, $11 for annual PAC, general liability insurance and Rotarian subscriptions.  We "net" $102.50 per member. The "net" covers all other operating expenses.  Our dues income and expense are budgeted at $10,200 each.
