SATURDAY IS CITRUS DAY.   The Citrus Drive peaks Saturday at Bob Greene's place on Rocky Hollow Road.   We need everyone who signed up to be there to help deliver the orders.  One team makes reminder calls from Coldwell Bankers, another team takes the first shift on site and the third team handles the second shift.  At the end of the day we have some orders that won't be picked up, and some extra fruit to be stored..  Sales totaled some $19,000, which means a profit of some $9,500.   We do have 200 extra cases to sell, which could impact the final total.  Usually we have requests for extra sales and we did promote that fruit can be purchased on site.  We will also have some of North Star's candles and CDs available.  Congrats to the committee for a great job.

Workers....a reminder that you signed up to work.  I couldn't paste an excel format into this newsletter...so am just listing your name and time.  You probably know what you are to do...or if not will be told when you get there.  Don't forget to push the extra fruit.

On Parole.  President Bob, back from his MDA arrest, is now wearing an ankle bracelet and must report in to his wife hourly.  Actually the reporting in part is not new.  He thanked the club for going his bail...$1825.  The money will send two kids to camp.  The Club congratulated Chuck Sauer for reporting Bob to the police and arranging for the arrrest.   And now..the rest of the story.  After Bob was hauled off to the MDA lockup, Chuck headed out with the bail money.  However he went to Twist in Warwick, instead of Mozzarella's in East Greenwich.  After getting some confused looks from the staff at Twist, he called the EG Police Department and asked if they knew where their officer had taken Bob.  He arrived eventually, and Bob returned before the end of the meeting.   He is a little touchy about the lack of respect for his office, to which the club members have pretty much replied, tough luck pal, you were good for a laugh.

Bill McHale has another Paul Harris Award.   Bill is part of a team and his name was drawn on Wednesday as this year's recipient.   Groups of four or five Rotarians put in $250 or $200 per person each year, totaling $1,000 for the Rotary Foundation.  Each year one name is drawn as a Paul Harris recipient.  If you would like to be part of a team contact George Popella..

Chuck Sauer reports our "Holiday Family" will be visited by Santa on the 23rd.  Before the meeting on the 16th members are invited to his office to help wrap presents.  His office is located right across from International Motor Group, the building with the green awnings. Chuck is in Suite 10.

Bob MacKenzie reports his son's track team at Bishop Hendriken took part in a national meet in Oregon and finished tenth in the nation.

Ed Neff played a round of muddy golf in Orlando and found that's where he excells.  He finished 2nd in a field of 60.

Judy Pratt has been installed a member of the Board of Incorporators at Kent Hospital.  The ceremony took place at the December 9th annual meeting.  She also received a certificate for a free apendectmy.

Chub Clement reports his lyme disease is gone.  He says he won't be eating any more lymes, although he does love Key Lyme pie.

From the Board Meeting...next meeting January 14th.

The allocation to the ALS Race, now 10 years old...has been increased to $2,500.
Chuck Sauer reported a $300 grant to a single mother with a 10 year old who is attending CCRI working on a nursing degree.
Other grants
$500--American Cancer Society
$500 to Disabled American Veterans
$1,000 to the RI Community food bank.

Our Speaker, Ken Bell, did the back stroke getting to our meeting on a very rainy wednesday.  Ken reported on how it all started for him as a high school student in 1969 when he got a job at his home town station in Boulder Colorado.  That led to Denver, to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Channel 10 in Providence, to Milwaukee and finally back to ABC 6 where he has spent the last 26 years.  Ken loves his work, but decries the state of broadcast today, which continues to slip in quality as competition increases.  Local channels are doing more with less as budgets slip and competiton from cable and the internet grows.
