Proud parents, Tom and Sally Ondrejko of Upper St Clair were our guests this morning as their daughter Eliana, a sophomore at USC High School, shared her personal community service project with our members. Eliana's project, completed earlier this school year, was to promote, collect and donate gently used tote bags to the Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project, which in turn would then be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank to insure those in need could carry their groceries home safely. Our congratulations goes out to Eliana as this wonderful project was a great example of "Service Above Self" and also allowed Eliana to earn her MYP certificate in the process. We would also wish Eliana great success in all of her future endeavors as we are certain; "She is sure to go far".

RI President-elect Ron Burton will ask Rotarians to Engage Rotary, Change Lives in 2013-14.

By Daniela Garcia
Rotary News -- 14 January 2013

He unveiled the RI theme during the opening plenary session of the 2013 International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA, the annual training event for incoming district governors.

“If we really want to take Rotary service forward, then we must make sure that every single Rotarian has the same feeling about Rotary that each one of us here has today,” Burton said. “We need to make sure that every Rotarian has a meaningful role to play, that they’re all making a contribution, and that their contribution is valued.”

The Early Learning Institute (TELI) was founded in 1958 as St. Peter’s Child Development Centers at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brentwood.  This pilot program was designed to provide parents of children with special needs an alternative to institutionalization.  In 1965, St. Peter’s Child Development Centers incorporated as a private non-sectarian 501(c)(3)organization, and in 1994, changed its name to The Early Learning Institute (TELI) to reflect the expansion of services to include early intervention and supportive services.  What began as a pilot program over 53 years ago with a class of eight children has grown to serving over 1,500 children from across Allegheny County annually.
