Rotary Leadership Institute is a leadership development program of discovery learning, collaboration and the exchange of ideas designed to improve Rotary Clubs and strengthen lives. The program is energized by facilitated learning in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication and organization. It is further enriched through the sharing of experiences and ideas with Rotarians from our District and beyond.
Each session is highly interactive, with a minimum of lecturing, providing lots of opportunity to share and experience ideas. Sessions are led by Rotary leaders who have been trained in facilitation techniques that maximize the discovery learning experience. Most workshops are limited to 10-15 participants who participate in interactive discussion, role playing and problem solving activities.
Course fees are per registrant per day, and cover the cost of breakfast and lunch, meeting space, and learning tools. It is recommended that clubs cover the workshop fee. The District will reimburse clubs for one participant taking a Part I workshop in Peabody.
A large group of Lynn Rotarians and family members, along with District Governor Sheryl Meehan, Asst. District Governor Joan Arsenault and past DG David Manzi, gathered at Temple Shirat Hayam in Swampscott on April 5th when the Lynn Club was recognized for outstanding volunteerism at My Brothers' Table’s 5th Annual Founders' Celebration. Lynn Rotarian and former President of My Brother’s Table Executive Board, Attorney Harvey Rowe, presented the award to Lynn President Ray Bastarache, who accepted on behalf of the members. “Our commitment to serve the poor and homeless in our city is firm,” declared Bastarache. “We are blessed to have so many members who want to help that occasionally we’ve sent Rotarians home because we had too many volunteers for the jobs that needed to be done.“
Easter Sunday was a totally spectacular summer-like day --- perfect for egg hunting. The club members the milk-chocolate eggs on-ice until the last minute -perfect weather for the kids, but way to hot and a little risky for the chocolate.
Hundreds of kids showed up to hunt down 8,000 (88 pounds) of chocolate eggs as well as toothbrushes (strongly recommended by Dr Easter Bunny-Corine Barone). The entire haul was scooped up in about ten minutes leaving he Seaside Park landscape almost barren.
All-in-all, a wonderful, community-family experience. A big thanks to all the volunteers who set up and supervised
It had been many years since the Rotary Club of Lynn sponsored an Interact Club, even with five high schools in the city; three public, one charter and one private high school. Veteran Lynn Rotarians recall how Lynn English once had an Interact charter but, for whatever reason, the club dissolved.
Fortunately, a new day has arrived in the city, thanks in large measure to two longtime and now retired Lynn Public School employees, Club President Ray Bastarache and President Elect, Steve Upton. In the spring of 2016, Bastarache and Upton (a Classical graduate and member of its Hall of Fame), had several meetings with groups of Classical students, with the assistance of guidance counselor Chris Hayward, and determined that genuine interest and enthusiasm was present from among the students. A follow-up meeting with Classical Principal Gene Constantino, who was thrilled at the prospect of a new club focusing on community service would be on campus, he threw his complete support behind it. History teacher Dena Capano, at the urging of Constantino, stepped in to be the Club's faculty moderator and membership continues to grow.
