We have sad news to share with you, our dear friend in Rotary and founder of our club, Fraffie Welch, passed away on March 13, 2017.
“Fraffie was a strong leader and pioneer in the Rotary movement. She was among the first group of women to become members. She cared deeply about our club and was always helpful with her advice about how we should respect its people and traditions. I will miss her strength, good humor and many kindnesses.”
District 7930’s District Assembly and Hunger and Homelessness Showcase are a unique opportunity to learn and grow in Rotary. There are three tracks available to all attendees. Choose one or attend all three!
The Showcase will feature non-profit organizations in our District who are ready to let Rotarians know who they are and what the need, not in donations, but in donations of “in-kind” services and volunteering. Bring your expertise and volunteer at an organization near you to help bookkeep, design a web, or do some printing. Forge a relationship that will carry though to your life and your community.
After a weekend of inspiration and collaboration, Presidents-elect from District 7930 and seven other districts around New England, are now prepared to complete the plans for their year of leadership in their clubs. Northeast PETS was totally transformed this year in order to help all incoming presidents to Inspire to Lead, Empower to Achieve. That was our promise to them and we are asking them to pay it forward in their clubs.
Thursday afternoon provided icebreakers with a purpose. Andy Winig challenged everyone to share Rotary with passion that inspires others to become engaged with our mission. Imagine 250+ people pairing off and practicing and beginning to master an effective "Why Rotary" elevator speech. Then it was off to three business networking opportunities with 10 people each: exchanging business cards, sharing their professional story, and developing relationships with other Rotarians. The last session of the afternoon was a presentation by Mitty Chang on How to Reshape Your Digital Story and learn how to engage young professionals. Lots of ideas and excitement were the story of the afternoon.
Ian Riseley, RI President-elect was our keynote speaker for dinner. His charm and sense of humor were clearly visible as he shared his vision of the 2017-18 Rotary theme: Rotary: Making a Difference. It is what we do as Rotarians every day. His unique spin on this is how important it is for Rotary to begin to track volunteer hours and dollars donated in service to the world. Each club has been asked to make sure they document the impact we have in ClubCentral so that RI can aggregate the worldwide numbers and demonstrate how critical Rotary is to those who need us.
Rotary Leadership Institute is a leadership development program of discovery learning, collaboration and the exchange of ideas designed to improve Rotary Clubs and strengthen lives. The program is energized by facilitated learning in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication and organization. It is further enriched through the sharing of experiences and ideas with Rotarians from our District and beyond.
Each session is highly interactive, with a minimum of lecturing, providing lots of opportunity to share and experience ideas. Sessions are led by Rotary leaders who have been trained in facilitation techniques that maximize the discovery learning experience. Most workshops are limited to 10-15 participants who participate in interactive discussion, role playing and problem solving activities.
Course fees are per registrant per day, and cover the cost of breakfast and lunch, meeting space, and learning tools. It is recommended that clubs cover the workshop fee. The District will reimburse clubs for one participant taking a Part I workshop in Peabody.
The full team of Rotarians and Students who will be facilitating the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) weekend in early June met this week for their first joint training session. The students have been meeting since January-- learning leadership techniques and getting to know each other. Rotarians have now joined the training sessions, which will continue through April and May in preparation for the actual RYLA weekend in early June.
All District 7930 Rotary Clubs are encouraged to send students to RYLA. Click here for more information about RYLA. Click here for a video about RYLA.
For more information about RYLA, please feel free to contact any of the following Rotarians-- all have several years of RYLA experience:
