Less Than Two Weeks Until Plunge!

Join the party at the 8th Annual Rotary Polar Plunge!  Please join Rotarians, Interactors, Rotaractors and friends of our 47 clubs who raise money and plunge in the waters off Long Beach, Gloucester on February 3rd, 2018.  This event is one of the most personally fulfilling, fun and rewarding events of the year.

Rotary has lead the charge for the past 30 years to eradicate Polio worldwide!  The number of new cases worldwide was 360,000 in the mid 1980’s.  This number has dropped as of December 2017 to 20 cases worldwide. We need one last push to fully eradicate Polio.

Since the first Plunge in 2011-- the brainchild of Gloucester President Josh Arnold-- this event has raised roughly a half-million dollars towards polio eradication.  Additionally, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has matched $2 for each $1 we raise in this effort which brings the total to $1.5 million!

As of Sunday, January 21,
the District Top 5 fundraising teams so far are
1) Woburn $5336
2) Wakefield $3368
3) Stoneham $1781
4) Arlington $1347
5) Lexington $1240
Top five fundraising individuals:

1) Tyler Gates - Woburn
2) James Major - Woburn and AG
3) David Gardner - Stoneham and DG
4) Danny Walbourne - Woburn
5) Bill Hayner

We look forward to another strong turnout for our 2018 Polar Plunge.  Please register to plunge or donate to a plunger today!

Youth Exchange Outbound Students
For approximately 13 years, District 7930 has been participating in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program sending students abroad and hosting students here in our District.  These students are unofficial ambassadors for Rotary, their community and country helping to bring the world closer together while making lifetime friends.

This year we are happy to share with the newest group of amazing young adults who will be the Outbound Students next year: (left to right)Cameron Abell from Beverly to Belgium, Alessandra Brizuela from Hamilton-Wenham to Ecuador, Christian Pulido from Beverly to Taiwan, Lia Whitman from Hamilton-Wenham to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Henry Prentiss from Rockport to Italy, Erika Hostrop from Marblehead to Peru.

Over the course of the next 6 months these students and their parents will participate in Orientation with the Youth Exchange team as they prepare for their year abroad.

We welcome any Club in the District that would like more information in the Youth Exchange Program to contact Betsy Manzelli.
Lynn's Satellite & Luncheon Clubs hold Joint Meeting
The Rotary Club of Lynn launched its Satellite Club over two years ago and the results have been impressive. Lynn’s membership has nearly doubled, the average age of its members has dropped significantly while the club’s diversity has increased to better reflect the urban community of Lynn. In addition, more members looking to volunteer has compelled leadership to greatly expand its menu of volunteer opportunities. One challenge that President Steve Upton, Vice-President Brenda Rondo-Ortiz and Satellite Chairman Dick Ruth faced was providing opportunities for the longtime luncheon members to socialize with the newer Satellite Rotarians at an evening event. That changed Tuesday when members from both clubs gathered at Old Tyme Italian Cuisine to hear fellow Rotarian and candidate for State Senate, Brendan Crighton, speak.

Rotary Leadership Institute is a leadership development program that combines facilitated learning, collaboration and ideas exchange to improve Rotary Clubs and strengthen lives.  Primary topics include leadership, team building, planning, market-ing, communication and organization.  The program is enriched through the sharing of experiences and ideas with Rotarians from our District and beyond.

Sessions are highly interactive, with a minimum of lecturing and lots of opportunity to share and experience ideas.  Each session is led by a Rotary leader who has been trained in facilitation techniques that maximize the learning experience.  Most work-shops are limited to 10-15 participants who participate in interactive discussion, role playing and problem solving activities.
