Reading Supports Eagle Scout Project
Harrison Fiscus is a Life Scout in Troop 702 in Reading working to complete the Eagle rank. Harrison's Eagle Project was to construct a sixty one foot long boardwalk on a trail in Town Forest. The trail was extremely muddy and a hazard for hikers. Harrison's project added to the network of boardwalks throughout the Town Forest. Harrison had to plan with and get the approval of the Town Forest Committee, the Trails Committee and Conservation in Town. A Boy Scout Eagle Project must help a non-profit or community entity for the improvement of the community. Troop 702 Boy Scouts have completed many Projects in the Town Forest.

Reading Rotary's donation is part of an initiative in Rotary to forge a partnership with Boy and Girl Scouts as there is a natural commonality of purpose in these organizations. Reading Rotary is happy to be able to help Harrison achieve his lifelong goal of obtaining the Eagle Scout Rank. Harrison's Project was completed this past fall.

Presidents-elect Head to 2017 NEPETS this Week!
This will be an exciting week for all of our incoming Presidents. On Thursday, March 9th, the afternoon program has been designed to provide new ways to approach communicating about Rotary. The first session is about how to introduce others to Rotary in a way that creates excitement about what we do and why. Directly following, there will be a business networking session which will bring us back to the roots of Rotary and provide an opportunity to use the the newly acquired or enhanced elevator speech skills. Finally, in the third session, the presentation will provide ways to use technology to enhance awareness about Rotary locally and around the globe.

Ian Riseley, the 2017-18 RI President, will be delivering a keynote to 450 Rotarians from around New England on Thursday evening! Ian is one of the most engaging speakers and is committed to documenting and increasing the impact that Rotary produces. The 2017-18 theme: Rotary: Making a Difference will be presented and he will share his thoughts on what Rotary can do in the coming year to fulfill the theme.

PETS has been entirely revamped, starting with the PrePETS programs that our Presidents-elect participated in over the past few months. The eight District Governors created a common curriculum which shifted the knowledge and technical aspects of club management to be delivered before PETS, so that we can focus on our theme: Inspire to Lead, Empower to Achieve. All of the programming will be focused on how to use the tools and programs that RI has to build and effectively engage membership, demonstrate how participating in Foundation Grants will increase vibrancy and develop additional leadership skills that will assist in building a stronger Rotary.

Please wish your Presidents-elect well and share in their excitement when they return all fired-up next week. There is much to do and Rotary needs each and every one of us to succeed.
