RYLA Students Needed Immediately
RYLA 2017
Friday-Sunday, June 2-4, 2017
Camp Rotary, Boxford, MA

RYLA 2017 is at risk due to lack of club participation.

Deadline Extended for Applications.  There is still time for your club to send students!

High School students from schools all over our district are invited to a weekend at Camp Rotary in Boxford.  We can accept 80 students and the program traditionally is sold-out with a waiting list. This year, we were forced to hold RYLA during the weekend that many schools hold their graduations.  This is making it difficult to find students.  Please help us find students!!

Medford Rotary Hosts Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Medford/Somerville
Medford Rotary President Bob Kaminer welcomed Lindsay Smythe, Executive Director Boys & Girls Club of Medford & Somerville. The Medford Boys & Girls Club services over 200 children between the ages of 6 to 18. They help them with homework, give the kids a snack, teach them life skills, have FUN and mentor the older kids on a path after high school. Lindsay felt, that the kids at their club could volunteer to help Rotary with a service project to give back to the Medford Community.

We found it very noteworthy that Lindsay was a former recipient of a Global Scholarship from Rotary District 7930, where she studied abroad in Milan, Italy. We also invited Lindsay to join our Rotary Club and we hope she will accept our invitation to do so.

The Rotary Club of Winchester celebrated its 90th Anniversary at a recent meeting. The club was Chartered on April 28, 1927. The membership commemorated the event at their regular weekly luncheon with Jack Kean presenting a retrospective of the club's first 90 years and its countless financial contributions and service projects in support of the Winchester Community and beyond.

Ipswich Rotary Supports Better Health in Zambia
Healthy Kids/Brighter Future (HK/BF) is a mission based initiative founded by an amazing young leader, Lonnie Hackett. The goal of this Maine native and 2014 Bowdoin graduate is to improve the health and learning of at risk children in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Lusaka, Zambia. The program trains a teacher health corps and makes local schools a point of access to primary healthcare and health information.

In 2015, Ipswich Rotary began partnering with the Rotary Club of Brunswick, Maine to raise funds to support this important health and peace initiative. Under the leadership of Past President Bob Gravino, several clubs from our Rotary District joined Brunswick and Ipswich in raising over $37,000 in 2016 through a Global Matching Grant from Rotary International.

April 19 was Rotary at Its Best!

The Rotary Assembly of April 19, 2017, gathered 150+ Rotarians and non-profit Partners from District 7930 in a combined networking and educational forum. Our district leadership in collaboration with the district Homelessness and Hunger Initiative planned and organized educational sessions and a Showcase for non-profit shelters, food pantries and similar organizations to enlist Rotarians in service opportunities to support their missions with technical and professional skills. The goal was to match skills with needs in areas such as social media, accounting, marketing, and contracting services among so many other possibilities.

The Assembly also offered a program track for effective advocacy techniques and tips to staff executive boards.. Jonathan Tetrault, from the Boston Food Bank, shared an update of the hunger trends in our area: Bob O’Hara coached attendees on how to create more impact when advocating, and Abbie Von Schlegal provided her insight on how to build a successful non-profit board.

The Assembly track provided the traditional training for Rotary Club leadership including Presidents-elect, Secretaries and Treasurers. The third session in this track provided the background to the next step in Visioning: Vision to Action.
