I would like to invite your Rotary Club to participate in the 2017 RYLA program.  If you have already participated, you know that this is a fabulous program for high school students to develop leadership skills.  If you are not familiar with RYLA, please indulge me and let me tell you about RYLA.

High School students from schools all over our district are invited to a weekend at Camp Rotary in Boxford.  We can accept 80 students and the program is almost always a sell-out with a waiting list.

Your Club on Your Cellphone!
There is a new Clubrunner app available for cellphones that takes about a minute to download and install.  Once you login with your usual Clubrunner username/password, you can find all of your Club member information in an instant.  If a new member joins, you can transfer that member's contact information to your cellphone's phonebook in a single push of a button.  Need to lookup a club event?  It's right there!

This app is going to quickly become one of my most-used apps on my phone.

Kentucky Derby Auction and Party
Manchester-Essex Rotary Club's major fund raiser takes place Saturday, May 6, 5-8:30pm at the American Legion Hall, behind Manchester's Town Hall. We will air the Kentucky Derby live. There will be music, dinner, wine tasting, cash bar and a live auction hosted by Senator Bruce Tarr. Available items include, sports & event tickets,, “instant wine cellar,” amazing artwork by local Cape Ann artists, many gift baskets and bundles, gift certificates to North Shore restaurants, etc. It is a lot of fun and tickets are $25.00 each. All the proceeds go to the Rotary fund which supports local efforts including scholarships for deserving Manchester and Essex students (last year we gave away $10K, which was raised at this auction), programs at the local schools, Gloucester Open Door food pantry, local community service projects in Essex and Manchester. Put on your best derby hat, there will be a prize for best lady's hat and best gent's hat. Have a good time for a great cause.
Rockport Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser
The Rockport Rotary held their “Annual Wine Tasting Event” on April 22, at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport. Approximately 225 guests attended the event and enjoyed an evening of fun. A collection of fine wines was provided by Seabreeze Liquors of Gloucester. Chas. E. Kreis from Rockport catered the event with an assortment of delicious cold and hot hors d’oeuvres. Fellow Rotarians dressed in formal attire elegantly served during the evening.

In addition to the wine testing and great food, an assortment of prizes were raffled during the event. Also, beautifully arranged wine baskets with a variety of themes were auctioned at the end of the evening.

The Rockport Rotary Club wants to extend a special thank you to everyone that attended the event, sponsors and all participants for their contribution: Seabreeze Liquors of Gloucester, The Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Chas Kreis, our sponsors (First Ipswich Bank, Bank Gloucester, and Cape Ann Savings Bank), fellow Rotarians, friends and our community for making our Wine Tasting a success.  All proceeds will benefit the Rockport Rotary Club’s community & international service projects.
Medford Welcomes Two New Members
President Bob Kaminer welcomed & installed our 2 newest Rotarians at our luncheon meeting on Thursday, April 20, at Bertucci’s, Medford. Linda Cataldo and Angela Rais applied for membership a few weeks ago and have been joining us as our guest for lunch. We are happy to say that both of them were welcomed today as new members by more than 25 Rotarians at our regular luncheon.

Both women are from Medford and Linda even grew up with one of our current Rotarians, Roland Racicot from Roland’s Jewelers. They are excited to put their skills to work volunteering their time and raising funds for our many charity projects and having fun along the way.

President Bob said, “We are very happy to have such enthusiastic new members ready to serve Rotary and the Medford community”.

Wakefield Installs New Member
The Wakefield Rotary Club is pleased to announce that Nick McPherson has been inducted as the newest member of the service club. McPherson is a realtor with REMAX Partners in Andover. A native of Danvers, he resides in North Reading with his fiancé Casey Reilly. “I wanted to get involved, help people, and meet Rotarians. I’ve loved working with this club and all of its hands-on community projects,” McPherson noted. McPherson’s sponsor Amy Luckiewicz added, "Already, Nick has volunteered for projects that involve hands-on work. He has a great energy and has been a natural fit to our friendly club.”

The Wakefield Rotary Club is one of the fastest growing Rotary clubs in the area with the addition of seven new members since July 1, 2016 (the start of the new Rotary year).
