Update

This year has already marked a significant milestone in making polio history. After this year's outstanding announcement of no new cases of the wild polio virus in Nigeria, we are down to two endemic countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. If Nigeria can go 2 more years without a new case, we will have a polio-free Africa!

Dreaming the Dream

All efforts by our partners in this fight are surging forward to eliminate polio everywhere in the months ahead, but it’s not about just delivering the vaccine to the children. The logistical and political challenges are many and costly. Rotary and the World Health Organization, as well as funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other funding partners, are pushing hard to achieve this goal. It will require a huge effort and much more funding to beat out the last cases and to make sure that polio does not re-occur in those countries that have been and will be certified polio free. If this happens, the globe could be polio free by 2018!

We need to stay diligent - Help make our District Polar Plunge a huge success!

Please start your club fund raising efforts by going out into your communities and telling the story and asking their support. Work at getting as many pledges (including Corporate sponsorships) as you can to help the District raise even more money this year for our POLAR PLUNGE effort. The more successful we are at this event, the less effort we need to ask Rotarians for funds that they can then give to the Rotary Foundation for doing even more good in the world. Our Plunge Committee will be reaching out to come speak at your club over the next several weeks.
