Being a District Governor is the most rewarding position I have ever held. Although the commitment might be daunting, the opportunity to serve Rotarians in District 7930 is filled with so many opportunities. The lessons that I have learned apply to my personal, professional and volunteer life. The roles that i have held before being nominated to be a Governor, in Rotary and in my professional life, have enhanced my skills and form the foundation for the role. I equate it with an MBA program. This is true from a time commitment and the benefits of the training that is provided an incoming Governor. From Past District Governors, to other District Leadership, to the interaction with my classmates, to the training received from Rotary International at Zone and the International Assembly, there is no other program at preparing someone for such a role. Am I an A student? No, never was, but I have done my best to learn the mechanics of Rotary and to provide the leadership to support clubs in their quest to provide service to their communities and the world in Making a Difference. All I can tell you is that this is an experience of a lifetime and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I just wish that I could have made this commitment years ago.
Do you know someone who would make a great Governor? Think about fellow Rotarians who have the basic skills that could be magnified through the training that is provided, and over the course of 24-30 months would be prepared to lead our wonderful district. I can guaranty that the time spent in service to the district will pay off in ways that I couldn't have understood even a few years ago. It is often said that being the President of a club is the best job in Rotary. Although I agree with this comment, I am beginning to believe that the role of Governor eclipses it.
Please help us find the 2020-2021 District Governor and be thinking into the future for who would follow in the next few years. Ultimately, our future depends on the strength of Rotary in Eastern Massachusetts and the ability of the District Leadership to support the clubs in their missions.
