Letter from your District Governor
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
It is a true honor and pleasure to serve as your governor for the 2019 ~ 2020 Rotary year! The year 2019 is a special one for me. I turned 60 back in February, my husband Lou and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in July, and in November of this year I will have another anniversary, 10 years as a Rotarian in the Greatest Rotary Club in the World, Stroudsburg Rotary!
Serving as District Governor of Rotary International District 7410 during this time will make it all the more amazing.
Rotary Connects the World is the theme for this year and I can certainly attest to how true that is. Because of Rotary, I now have friends and acquaintances from all corners of the globe who share the goal of making it a better world.
Our new Vision Statement says it so well:
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change ~ across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.
Our Rotary President Mark Maloney is asking us to GROW ROTARY this year! We can accomplish this by sharing what we do with thoughtful, talented and generous people, but also by growing our projects and service to make an even greater impact in our backyard and in the world. If your club needs a little help with this, reach out to the District Membership Committee for ideas and solutions. We are here to help.
The End Polio Now Campaign needs to take center stage as we near the end of this disease. I encourage you to find new creative ways to raise awareness to your members and your community while raising funds to fulfill our promise to the children of the world to rid it of Polio once and for all. I am committed to this cause, we have a super Polio Committee that is committed to this cause, Rotarians all over the world are committed to this cause and we hope you are as well!
If you have never attended a Rotary International Convention I hope you will consider the 2020 convention in Honolulu Hawaii! 40,000+ Rotarians from all over the world will attend to share their projects and ideas, their passion and desire to do good in the world. Our Convention Promotion team will be sharing even more reasons to attend as they visit and reach out over the next few months. There were already 21 of us signed up in the month of July! I guarantee it will change your life and why not enjoy the beautiful island at the same time?
I’m looking forward to visiting all of the clubs, joining in service projects and fundraisers while we GROW ROTARY, END POLIO and support our FOUNDATION so we can continue to do good in the world. And don’t forget we should have fun along the way! The District is here to help so please use the resources that are available to you and your club.
I invite you to enjoy the journey and ask others to join with us as we Connect the World!
In Rotary Service,
Karen DeMatteo
