Short-term Youth Exchange

Rotary Short Term Exchange presents opportunities for students to advance their knowledge and world understanding by allowing them to briefly live in a different country.

The Rotary STEP (short term exchange program) is a family to family summer exchange program. After a match is established with an international family, the two students will spend one month at each other's home in the coming summer, with the exact dates determined by the two families.

This program is open to students, age 15-19, living in Rotary District 6420 of good character who desire to live abroad and host in return.

Candidates should be adaptable, mature and want to experience life in other countries and cultures. Children of Rotarians and non-Rotarians are equally eligible. Applicants will not be required to know the language of their host country but should be familiar with key words and phrases. The program endeavors to place students with English-speaking families.

Candidates must be sponsored by their local Rotary Club and complete a the short-term program application. (See Members Section of this website >> Documents >> Documents >> Short Term Exchange) All family members will also be required to complete a background check. Outbound Orientation in March is mandatory for applicant and parents. Those unable to attend will be offered the opportunity to defer participation to the following year if still qualified.

Club cost is $300 (subject to change) to help defer Outbound Orientation expenses. Family is responsible for travel cost, insurance, and costs associated with reciprocally hosting while the paired students are here.
