I have a confession...I am not ready for fall. Summer went too fast and I was too busy and I am not ready for it to be over. One of the things that makes it easier is that we just welcomed 9 long term exchange students to our District. Talk about a great way to “connect with the world”. If you have a club in your area that sponsors an inbound student, arrange for them to speak at your club. Now is also the time to start interviewing an outbound student to sponsor next year. Rotary Youth Exchange is a life changing experience for the students and the clubs that sponsor them!
It is time to replace our District Council on Legislation Representative Bob Hammon. Bob's term will expire at the close of this Rotary year. The new COL Representative will serve a 3 year term.
The position now combines Council on Resolutions (an ongoing process) and Council on Legislation (a 3 year process). For a complete description of the duties of office please refer to Article 9 of the District bylaws.
As we enter our third month in the Rotary year, it is really important we focus on our goals of giving to The Rotary Foundation. It is so easy to set up giving through Rotary Direct either on a monthly basis or a one-time payment. The Rotary Foundation Chair Gary Huang reports that an ambitious goal of $400 million has been set to be raised this year. $140 million of this would be for the Annual Fund, $50 million for PolioPlus from donors, $100 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (provided our $50 millions is raised), $75 million from our endowment, and $35 million in contributions to other approved global grants.
No registration fee! Non-competitive- just an awareness with donations accepted. Coffee and rolls during registration, fruit and granola bars with water after walk. All Rotarians are welcome to attend!
