News from DG Kathy Kwiat-Hess

I can’t believe we are in the last month of our Rotary year.  We have accomplished so much during this year.  Our membership is definitely on the climb.  Several clubs have had membership open houses that have paid off in new members.  All of our clubs continue to do excellent service throughout their individual communities.  It has truly been inspiring to travel around the district and hear about and see some of those projects in action.   Many of our clubs have enhanced their public image efforts this year to let others know of all the good that is being done by Rotarians.

Looking for a few good Rotarians?

Do you have what it takes to make a difference?

The District 6420 Vocational Training Team Committee is looking for a few good Rotarians who can lend their time, experiences and skill sets in the development and implementation of a family- and health-related project in Combarbalá, Chile.

What is the project? The purpose of this project is to help professionals in Combarbalá develop stronger skill sets in the development and implementation of programs surrounding the health and development of young people in the community. Combarbalá educational and health professionals are experiencing challenges with young people in the community as it relates to sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS; alcohol and drug abuses; and healthy relationships. A point of fact: Chile is the only Latin American Country where the rate of AIDS infection is increasing. In addition, professionals in Combarbalá are having difficulty getting the attention from students and parents.

We're all probably wondering whether the rain will every end.  Being in an area that is heavily dependent upon agriculture, our hearts go out to our farmers and farm families, as well as all those affected by flooding of our various rivers.
My message today is a final reminder that time is short to make your financial investment in The Rotary Foundation's Annual Fund, Polio Plus, or other area that you might specify.  Please make your investment no later than June 15 so it will be counted toward this year's goal.  The fastest way is via Rotary Direct if you choose to use it.  Simple, fast, and you can use it on an ongoing basis if you want to.

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.  Rotarians work to access quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future,  An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care and poor sanitation - all of which can be prevented.
