Belvidere Rotary Club seeks partners, contributors for Morocco project

Belvidere Rotary Club is seeking partners and contributors for its Global Grant Project in Morocco.

The TMP (Timoulilt Morocco Project) covers two areas of focus: Education (Early Childhood Education) and Health (Maternal and Child Health).

Objectives:
  • Ensuring that the village children have access to a quality basic preschool education by providing necessary supplies and materials as well as helping to create an environment conducive to learning and child development for 3-, 4- and 5-year-old girls and boys.
  • Ensuring that the small Health Center in the village has adequate medical supplies and equipment to provide health care to the village population, including a safe delivery room and the ability to handle emergencies and reduce mortality rates from child birth complications and minor injuries.
The club president (Moha Bouacha) has prepared a PowerPoint presentation detailing the project and is willing to visit other Rotary Clubs to present it as a 20 minute program.

If you are interested, please contact Moha at m_bouacha@yahoo.com or 815-980-5526.

Great thanks and appreciation to the first contributor, Ottawa Sunrise Rotary Club.

PDG Jim Nelson gives the cowbell to Inaugural Chairman Josh Miller at the installation banquet as part of a gifting program.

The Galena Noon Rotary Club successfully developed the first Rotary Satellite Club in District 6420.

All clubs in the district will be receiving correspondence shortly regarding the traditional program of assisting new clubs with startup funds to help purchase supplies and equipment.

Such gifting was most helpful when the Byron Club was rechartered and the Twin Rivers After Hours Club was chartered.

Would you like our PHS coordinator to speak at your club?
As our district's Paul Harris Society Coordinator, I would like to announce that I am available for doing a Paul Harris Society / Foundation Program for Rotary Clubs in our district. I have set a limit as to the distance I will travel, but our District Foundation Chair PDG Ruth Lee is very willing to cover beyond my range.

Belvidere Rotary Foundation sponsors Bomber Bingo

The Belvidere Rotary Foundation got nice media coverage for its sponsorship of Bomber Bingo during the Poplar Grove Fly-in/Drive-in/Walk-in Aug. 21. And a nice return: $6,000 raised for local organizations and youth.

Volunteer pilots and riders flew over a grid representing numbers on the raffle tickets. That's an idea that can take off!

Also cool: The Facebook Live video from the event (you can watch it now if you missed it).

Interact box helps North Korean family survive flooding for 6 months

In June 2015, the Rochelle Township High School Interact Club raised $1,000 to purchase a ShelterBox through ShelterBox.org in the hopes of helping a family survive somewhere in the world.
On January 6, 2016, the ShelterBox was deployed to help a family in Korea affected by devastating flooding.
On June 22 the area was finally returned to a livable state.

According to Interact Advisor Alison Mercer-Curtis, she received confirmation that the ShelterBox provided by the Interact Club provided shelter and food for a family for six months.

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities around the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis. Since ShelterBox was founded, donors like the Interact Club have responded to over 240 disasters and humanitarian crises in more than 90 different countries and provided emergency aid for over 1 million people.

ShelterBox aid is tailored to each disaster but typically includes a disaster relief tent for a family; thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity pack.
