Our District 5340 is the only one in the United States with a Rotary Model United Nations Program, started by our District's Pathways to Peace Committee thirteen years ago. Rotary International has a long and proud association with the U.N, with Rotarians involved in its charter, and having the highest consultative status of any nongovernmental organization. We are partners with the U.N. in our PolioPlus initiative.
At our Model UN weekend event, teams of 2 student ambassadors and a Rotary or teacher advisor represent a country at a mock General Assembly and debate and resolve real life UN resolutions.
Students learn conflict resolution, debating skills, critical & analytical thinking, and presentation skills. we expose students to different cultures, political ideologies, and the art of making peace.
