Awards from Rotary International
 

RECOGNIZE A ROTARIAN

 
      AVENUES OF SERVICE CITATION
Selection Committee:  None.  Club Presidents submit directly to Rotary International.
Honor a club member who participates in service activities in each of the five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, International, and Youth.
Term:  Previous 12 months.
Who can nominate to Rotary International: Club presidents
Deadline: None.  Processing takes four weeks.
Notice sent out to Club Presidents:  March 1.  If you want the award to be given at the District Conference, please alert the District Governor.
 
CLUB BUILDER AWARD
Selection Committee:   John Cornwell, Brian Hall, Barbara Mauldin
Up to 10 deserving Rotarians from the District who have significantly supported and strengthened their Rotary clubs are eligible.
 
Criteria:
·        Must have been a Rotarian for at least five years
·        Not a current club president
·        Not a current, incoming, or immediate past district governor
·        Recruited at least five members who are active Rotarians at the time of nomination.
·        Participated in at least one meaningful club-level vocational service project
·        Attended at least two district meetings in the three years immediately preceding nomination
·        Eligible candidates must be recommended by three past presidents of their own club (or of a past club if they have belonged to their current club for less than three years).

ROTARY FOUNDATION CITATION FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE

Selection Committee – Ace Necaise, Steve Howard, Bob Vaughn
Honor members who have been actively involved in service activities related to The Rotary Foundation, such as serving on a Foundation committee, participating in a grant-funded project, or supporting a Rotary Peace Fellow.
Term:  Previous 12 months.
Who can nominate: District governors
Deadline: None.  Processing takes four weeks.

ROTARY FOUNDATION DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

    Selection Committee – Ace Necaise, Steve Howard, Scott Thomas
The Distinguished Service Award is the Foundation’s highest service recognition and is given to Rotarians who have demonstrated exemplary service to the Foundation. Recipients must have received the Citation for Meritorious Service at least four years prior to be eligible for this award.  Eligible is Karen Babin, Stu Guey, and Barbara Mauldin.
Term.  None
Who can nominate: Rotarians
Deadline: 30 June.  Processing takes three to four months.

ROTARY FOUNDATION DISTRICT SERVICE AWARD

Present up to 20 certificates to Rotarians in your district who are making a difference through the Foundation’s programs.
Term:  Previous 12 months.
Who can nominate: District governors

RI SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD

Committee – John Cornwell, Brian Hall, Barbara Mauldin, Don Bryan, Subhash     Kulkarni
Rotary’s highest honor recognizes up to 150 Rotarians each year who demonstrate their commitment to helping others by volunteering their time and talents.
Term:  None
Who can nominate: Current and immediate past district governors and current and past RI directors
Deadline: 1 September.  Processing takes three to four months.

SERVICE AWARD FOR A POLIO-FREE WORLD

Committee – TBD by the District Governor 2017-18
This award recognizes outstanding contributions to our polio eradication efforts. Each year, we give up to 10 regional service awards per WHO region to worthy recipients. We also give 10 international awards to people whose work has had widespread impact.
Term:  Previous 12 months.
Who can nominate: Rotarians

VOCATIONAL SERVICE LEADERSHIP AWARD

Committee – TBD by the District Governor 2017-18
This award is given to Rotarians who have used their occupation to make an impact in the community, demonstrated integrity in their profession and in Rotary, and undertaken at least one of six activities outlined in the award guidelines that we outline in the nomination form.
Who can nominate: District governors
Term:  Previous 12 months.

RECOGNIZE A ROTARY CLUB

 

PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

Clubs that are growing stronger, creating positive change in our communities, and enhancing our public image deserve recognition. The Presidential Citation is one way to acknowledge their work.
Term:  July 1-June 30
Who can nominate: Decisions based on club information submitted on Rotary Club Central.
Club deadline: 30 June 2017 for inputting information on Rotary Club Central
 

 

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Committee – Joy Goundas, Shawn Steinkamp, Stuart Guey, Bob Vaughn– See Awards Available from District 6840/Community Service
Recognize a club in your district whose project has addressed a significant problem or need in your community (international projects are not eligible). You can nominate one club per district each year.
Term:  Been active during the Rotary year for which the award is being given (though it need not have been initiated, and may have been completed, in the current Rotary year)

Recognize clubs that are making an impact through their exceptional community or international service projects.

ROTARIAN SPOUSE/PARTNER SERVICE AWARD

    Selection Committee – Assistant Governors
Honor spouses and partners of club members for showing their commitment to Rotary through exemplary humanitarian service.
Term.  None
Who can nominate: District governors
Deadline: 1 March.  Notification two months.

ROTARY FOUNDATION ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR

This award recognizes one outstanding alumni association each year that has increased awareness of our alumni’s impact on our organization.

ROTARY FOUNDATION GLOBAL ALUMNI SERVICE TO HUMANITY AWARD

This award recognizes one outstanding Foundation alumnus each year whose humanitarian service or professional achievements demonstrate the impact of the Foundation's programs.

WORLD INTERACT WEEK RECOGNITION

    Selection Committee – Fen Swann
Recognize Interact clubs that celebrate the founding of the first club during World Interact Week, which occurs each year during the week of 5 November. Activities can range from working on a joint project with a Rotary club to inviting potential members to a club meeting or project.

Recognize Rotaract clubs that celebrate the founding of the first club during World Rotaract Week, which occurs each year during the week of 13 March. Activities can range from partnering with an international Rotaract club to publicizing Rotaract in your local media.

Club Service/Meetings

The regular meeting of the members should be such so that when a member hears about an upcoming program, they feel they must attend; and when a member leaves a meeting, they feel it was time well-spent.  A potential member attending a meeting should feel that they want to come again or join.
A club that receives the Club Service/Meetings Award can demonstrate that it has had impactful meetings.

The newsletter should be the most read information about Rotary that a club member receives in any form.  The format of the newsletter should encourage reading and should encourage member engagement.
A club that receives the Club Service/Newsletter Award can demonstrate effective utilization of the newsletter.

Club Service/Public Relations

Effective clubs will be known – of necessity – in the community.  Effective public relations activities attracts attention and brings an increased interest in the club and its activities.
A club that receives the Club Service/Public Relations Award can demonstrate that it has attracted positive community attention to itself.

Club Service/Fund-raising

Effective clubs are skilled in raising the funds to provide the resources necessary for its activities.  There are two Club Service/Fund-raising Awards.  An individual club can win only one of these awards per year.
A club that wins the first award can demonstrate that it has raised the most dollars after expenses, i.e. net revenues.
A club that wins the second award can demonstrate that it has raised the most dollars per club member.
Term:  Previous 12 months.

Club Service/Fellowship

One of the main reasons a person joins and stays in a Rotary club is for fellowship.
A club that wins the Club Service/Fellowship Award can demonstrate that club members have experienced fellowship outside of club meetings in significant form and numbers.

Club Service/The Charles (Gill) Miller Club Secretary Award   
Selection Committee:  Karen Babin, Lydia Alford, John Cornwell
The name Gill Miller is synonymous with the office of Rotary secretary at both the club level (Edgewater) and the district level (6840).  In honor of his decades of service in this office, clubs are invited to submit applications for this award given for excellence in achievement in club secretarial duties.
The individual who wins this award will have demonstrated skill in reporting all club personal information in the Rotary database, including member contact information, club officer information, and all R.I and District reports in a timely fashion, as well as other duties required by the club, district, zone or Rotary International.
Term:  At least one year as club secretary in the last two years.

Club Service/Social Media

Social Media has begun to eclipse traditional media in its ability to engage Rotarians and the community at large.
A club that received the Club Service/Social Media Award can demonstrate that it has reached not only its own club with a message delivered through social media, but also the community at large.

A key reason a person joins a Rotary club or stays in a Rotary club is the opportunity to provide an effective community service, something that is not just nice, but important or essential.
A club that wins the Community Service Award can demonstrate that at least one of its projects has moved the needle in dealing win a community issue.  Clubs partnering with other clubs are eligible for this award.
Term:  Previous 12 months.

International Service

As Rotary International is, as its name says, an international organization, one of its most exciting and dynamic aspects is the opportunity it affords clubs to work on projects around the world.
A club that wins the International Service Award can demonstrate that its project has moved the needle on an important community need outside the United States.  Clubs partnering with other clubs are eligible for this award.

Vocational Service/Networking

A key reason a person joins a Rotary club or stays in a Rotary club is the opportunity for networking.
A club that wins the Vocational Service/Networking Award can demonstrate that in form and numbers that club members have experienced effective networking activity.  Clubs partnering with other clubs are eligible for this award.

Youth Service

One of District 6840’s core values is Investing in Our Youth.  This can mean dealing with youth issues or partnering with youth in club projects.
A club that wins the Youth Service Award can demonstrate that its efforts at Youth Service have had an impact on the youth involved.  Clubs partnering with other clubs are eligible for this award.
Term:  Previous 12 months.

The Rotary Foundation/Annual Fund – Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
Any effective Rotary club financially supports The Rotary Foundation through its Annual Fund-Share program knowing the important work that the Foundation does throughout the world and locally through funds it sends back to us that are used for District Grants.
There are two Rotary Foundation/Annual Fund Awards.  An individual club can win only one specific award per year.
A club that wins the first award can demonstrate that its members have donated the most charitable dollars raised after expenses (if any), i.e. net revenues.
A club that wins the second award can demonstrate that its members have donated the most charitable dollars per club member.
 
The Rotary Foundation/Endowment Fund - Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
An effective Rotary club engenders a strong bond between its members and Rotary.  This is often made apparent by an individual Rotarian giving a gift to the Rotary Foundation’s Endowment Fund.
There are two Rotary Foundation/Endowment Fund Awards.  An individual club can win only one specific award per year.
The club that wins the first award has given the most monies to The Rotary Foundation Endowment Fund.
The club that wins the second award has given the most gifts of $10,000 per member or more.
 
The Rotary Foundation/PolioPlus - Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
The Rotary Foundation’s fight to eradicate polio has shown that you should never tell a Rotarian that something can’t be done.  An effective Rotary club has supported this effort through its contributions to Polio Plus.
There are two Rotary Foundation/PolioPlus Awards.  An individual club can win only one of these awards a year.
A club that wins the first award can demonstrate that its members have donated the most charitable dollars raised after expenses (if any), i.e. net revenues.
A club that wins the second award can demonstrate that its members have donated the most charitable dollars per club member.
 
The Rotary Foundation/Paul Harris Society - Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
Contributors to the Paul Harris Society demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the mission of Rotary.  Effective clubs will have large numbers of Paul Harris Society members because of their certainty that their contributions will support effective service.
There are two Rotary Foundation/Paul Harris Society Awards.  An individual club can win only one of these awards a year.
A club that wins the first award can demonstrate that it has the largest number of new Paul Harris society members. 
A club that wins the second award can demonstrate that it has the largest percentage of club members in the Paul Harris Society.
 
Membership Development/New Members - Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
Effective clubs are constantly attracting new members and thereby potentially increasing their financial and volunteer resources.
There are two New Member Awards.  An individual club can win only one of these awards a year.
A club that wins the first award can demonstrate that it has the largest number of new members. 
A club that wins the second award can demonstrate that it has the largest percentage of new club members over total club membership.
 
Membership Development/Retention - Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
It has been shown that low membership retention is the key factor in retarding Rotary member growth.  Increase member retention and membership grows.
A club that wins the Member Retention Award can demonstrate that it has the largest percentage of members retained. 
 
Membership Development/Overall - Submission is not necessary.  Information is gathered from R.I.
          The bottom line in increasing membership is the net growth.
There are two Overall Membership Development Awards.  An individual club can win only one of these awards a year.
A club that wins the first award can demonstrate that it has the largest increase in the number of its members.
A club that wins the second award can demonstrate that it has the largest percentage increase in membership.
 
Partnerships
Selection Committee – Joy Goundas, Kathie Short, Ken Thompson
It is often difficult for an individual Rotary Club to provide services effectively, due a lack of financial or volunteer resources.  Partnerships are one solution.
The club or clubs that win the Partnership Award can demonstrate that by creatively combining resources with Rotary or non-Rotary organization(s), greater goals may be achieved.
Term:  Previous 12 months.

District Innovation Award
Selection Committee – Kathie Short, Ken Thompson, Bob Haeuser
Over the course of a year, a club may find some new innovation that helps them in achieving their Rotary mission but is not covered by the above award areas. 
A club may seek to win this award by demonstrating the effectiveness of this activity.
