Message from DG Elizabeth
Congratulations to all Rotarians who have rolled up their sleeves, reached out to neighbors, and begun to lend assistance to the communities in Southwest and Northwest Louisiana who were directly affected by Hurricane Laura.  Your generosity and empathy continue to make me proud to be a member of this incredible network of people.  Again and again our core values of service, integrity, fellowship, diversity, and leadership serve us and our communities well.
Your active service --acts of service-- are the best branding and recruitment materials we have.  I ask that, as you engage in these acts of service, make it known that you are a Rotarian.  Your actions will then bring others who share our core values to join Rotary clubs and strengthen their own communities.  While they might not join our particular club, we will have increased Rotary's capacity to make lasting change.
The Official DG Territory Vists and Open Houses were, for me, a fun and rewarding experience.  As per usual for 2020, we had to make some changes to the calendar but we largely met the commitments we made together back in March.  Together we showed our ability to adapt and still engage with one another and find ways to expand our reach by working collaboratively.  And everyone who participated had the opportunity for real fellowship and expansion of our understanding of Rotary around the world and in the communities right next door.
September is another month in which Rotary Opens Opportunities. From the launch of a new District Webinar series to Inclusion and Diversity Workshops by Rotary International, to club-specific membership growth and engagement workshops, to boat races, trash clean ups, Hurricane mitigation road trips, rubber duck races, Sunset Peace Walks, 5ks...put on your Rotary shirt and be People of Action!  I look forward to working (or paddling) alongside you at some of these fantastic club initiatives.
September Is Basic Education and Literacy Month

How are you supporting this Rotary Area of Focus?

The current challenges facing our schools at all levels require us to be creative about how we address our partnerships with schools.  Our students and teachers need us to listen, think creatively and to be People of Action as mentors and problem-solvers.  A quick search on Rotary.org can provide ideas to get you thinking outside your local box:

      Literacy: Teaching the teachers

Literacy: Distinguishing between fact and fiction

    DONATING TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION:
The simplest way to make a donation to The Rotary Foundation is to participate in Rotary Direct.  By doing this, you lessen the administrative burden on your Club Treasurer and can contribute on a recururring basis at the level you are comfortable with.
Go to rotary.org and login to your MyRotary account (if you don't have one,it's easy to do: just use the same e-mail address as you use for all Rotary communications and it will link to your Rotary Member number).  When your name appears, use the pull down menu under your name in the top right and select My Donations This brings you to a page called Donor Self Service where you can set up a Recurring Donation.
On the same page you can also access your Donor Hisotry Report which lists every contribution you have ever made, any any contribution (or points transfer) that has been credited to your account.
If you sign up in September, a monthly recurring donation of $12 (commencing in October)will mean that you are a Sustaining Member by the end of this Rotary Year.  If you want to make the target of $125 this year, set up a donation of $35.  To earn a Paul Harris Fellow by the end of this Rotary Year, enter $112.  By donating to the Annual Fund, 50% of your donation will come back to District 6840 in 3 years and will be used for District Grants.
No matter which amount you donate, you can be sure that 100% of your donation will be used to Do Good in the World.  For 12 consecutive years, in recognition of its excellent stewardship, The Rotary Foundation has earned the highest 4-star ranking of Charity Navigator .
